I was asked to participate on a local board as an advocate for current residents in low-income housing. The irony in all of this is, as a Real Estate Agent, I have always been an advocate for affordable housing and the plight of the black community and how we just sit back and let our own slowly fade into a sea of despair.
Prior to this assignment I was looking for a way to strengthen the maximum potential of black individuals & communities. It brings to mind a quote that I ran across some time ago...
"So many dreams at first seem impossible. And then they seem improbable.
And then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable."--Christopher Reeves
My initial task was to carefully and objectively research the concern that there is not enough Affordable Rental housing. This lead to my thinking...how can I get others to understand the importance of pushing for affordable housing? Why should we just stop at Affordable rentals...why not provide information needed by investors to enable them to offer first time homebuyer opportunties? Affordable Housing needs to be demanded and information provided that will help maintain ownership and in return rebuild black neighborhoods and give our people a sense of living instead of just surviving.
"Civilization is a process... whose purpose is to combine single human individuals, and after that families, then races, peoples, and nations, into one great unity, the unity of mankind." -- Sigmund Freud
Homeownership has a positive impact on our children’s development and it creates community stakeholders; people active in their neighborhoods. When families move into a home of their own, they gain independence, confidence and their faith in the future grows.
There are programs and legal methods for acquiring a home for the disadvantaged. I will introduce you to some of these programs such as FHA, 203K, VA, USDA, IDA and downpayment assistance programs.
My deepest desire is that you would use these programs to rebuild your community and create a life worth living. My mission is in keeping with the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To work diligently to remove barriers that deter our low income, elderly, and disabled from obtaining the American dream of homeownership and economic equality. We share the belief that what self centered men have torn down, other centered men can build up, enabling the people we serve a higher standard of living.
My Vision:
To care, challenge and promote change.

""A man who is good for anything should not calculate the chance of living or dying. He should only consider whether in doing anything, he is doing right, or wrong, and acting the part of a good man, or of bad..” - Socrates
To develop and recognize that we all are black pearls.
