THE LITTLE BULLRIDER

I never know just what to say,
when he says he'll be a rodeo man,
But it's in his blood,
this much I understand.

Maybe it's the young glory,
that he already has inside,
and maybe just maybe,
he got some of mama's pride.

But he spurs the teeter totter,
and often rides the dog,
and yesterday I watched him,
try to buck out a log.

He turns laces into lariats,
and learned to flank the cat,
he lopes around on his two legs,
in an oversized cowboy hat.

He talks 'bout being' a cowboy,
and learning how to ride,
and taught himself to cowboy up,
and find a little try.

Today he spurs the spring horse,
but soon it'll be a bull,
and hel'll give into the calling,
and follow rodeo's pull.

Someday he'll be the champion,
of the world he says,
but for now he's my little bull rider,
spurring the teeter totter instead.
