| The True Athlete He stands alone and trembles his body aching in unseen pain holdin his head low lost in cleansin rain He sighs and shifts his weight lookin for a better way to stand he's taken more punishment then would be asked of any man. And he probably won't move at least for a day or two until he see's the truck and trailer come rollin up the hill He squeezes his eyes shut and draws a deep deep breath greatfull for the moments peace and for the seconds rest then a wave of healing fills him starting in his heart washing away the aching ready to do his part He stands like a champion waiting to settle the score watching with a lazy eye He's cowboy to the core He's more than a champion He's part of a legacy more heart and pride than any person that we see He runs on sheer power bucks on pride and love and bellows with every shadow that graces the rodeo above He's a rodeo bull two tons of pure ride daring the cowboys to try and cross his great divide Jenn LaRose return to home return to poem list |
