Fiddler Crab Tank |
|
|
|
The newest edition to my hobby is the new 10 gallon land/water, brackish aquarium featuring fiddler crabs. I got the idea from the message boards at aquahobby.com. the tank came out pretty well and for my first land/water tank it looks pretty good. The tank features 4 Fiddler Crabs which I obtained from petsmart, not to advertise but to simply say give a chance, sometimes they have some real oddballs. Anyways I think i have 4 females but one is missing a claw which coule grow back as the fiddle claw of a male. |

Setting up a Land/Water Aquarium |

LET'S BEGIN. The first step is getting all the equipment that is needed to build one of these tanks. I chose for space reasons a 10 gallon tank. I also got a terrarium screen cover, 2 bags of gravel, a 5 and 10lb bag. i also got a small internal filter to circulate water and clean it. |

THE BASICS. Next add the internal filter, gravel, and some decor. Do not add the banking yet until you are satisfied with the way the tank looks so far. right now the tank looks like a normal set-up but the gravel is not as thick, more for the banking. |

TIME FOR THE BANK. This is the main land area in the tank. As you can see, larger rocks help support the banking, so that it does not collapse. I used gravel but i mix of sand and gravel might seem more natural to the crabs or whatever land critter you have in this type of tank. |

ADDING SALT! This is a key thing when making a brackish tank. there is roughly 1-2 gallons of water in the tank and I used 3/4 of a teaspoon of aquarium salt...i suggest a hydrometer. |

THE FINISHED PRODUCT!!! This is the way the tank looks completed and a few changes have occurred. the crabs are healthy and seem to enjoy it. (Better than petsmart) |
