Jessica and Andrew met in 1999 when Andrew came to San Antonio, Texas from his home in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to attend Torchbearers, a one-year Bible college. They hit it off very well as both of them are avid sports fans and would attend San Antonio Spurs games. Other things they liked to do together included:
- Playing card games
- Watching movies and TV - especially Seinfeld and The Practice
- Going out for coffee
- Playing any sport (although they don't agree on their favorite basketball team) - Go Spurs Go!
- Eating at Chili's, Chick-fil-a, Rudy's BBQ, or Taco Cabana
- Hanging out
They soon became very good friends and on October 9, 2000 (Canadian Thanksgiving and the American Columbus Day) at the Alamodome, where their friendship began, Andrew asked Jessica to marry him. The date set is August 4, 2001 at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
