| Ohne alle Reisedokumente kannst du Deutschland nicht verlassen und erst recht nicht in die USA einreisen. Saemtliche Dokumente, die du fuer deine Reise in die USA brauchst, aber auch welche, die deine Organisation wahrscheinlich haben will, hab ich hier aufgelistet und erklaert. |
| Wenn du noch keinen Reisepass hast, beantrage ihn im Rathaus spaetestens zwei Monate vor deiner Abreise. Dafuer brauchst du zwei Passbilder, 25 Mark und, auch wenn du schon 16 bist, die Unterschrift deiner Eltern. |
| Wenn du deinen Pass hast, kannst du das Visum beantragen. Als Schueler brauchst du das J-1 Visum und das Schuelervisum IAP-66. Das IAP-66 hat mir meine Organisation zugeschickt, deshalb weiss ich nicht, woher du das bekommen kannst, wenn sich deine Organisation nicht darum kuemmert. Das IAP-66 besteht aus drei Seiten, die ausgefuellt werden muessen und mit dem Antrag fuer das J-1 Visum, dem Reisepass, einem Brief von deinen Eltern, Passbildern, ein paar anderen Papieren und einer Ueberweisung von 100 Mark (aendert sich immer wieder, vorher erkundigen) nach Frankfurt geschickt werden. Das alles ist nur viel Papierzeug, normal hilft dir die Organisation bei der Visabeantragung, wenn nicht, bekommst du im Rathaus Informationen. Es sollte also keine Probleme geben. |
| Waehrend deine Aufenthaltes wird deine Organisation fuer verschiedene Anlaesse, zum Beispiel, wenn du mit deiner Gastfamilie oder alleine verreisen willst, die Erlaubniss deiner Eltern verlangen, um nicht die Verantwortung tragen zu muessen, falls dir etwas passiert. Auch die Schule braucht manchmal die Unterschrift deiner Eltern. Denk also vor deiner Abreise an eine schriftliche Erlaubniss deiner Eltern, dass du frei in den USA reisen darfst. Wenn dir deine Eltern genug trauen, dann bitte sie auch um ein paar leere Blaetter, auf denen nur ihre Unterschrift steht, so musst du, wenn du nicht auf einen Brief von zu Hause zu warten kannst, nur einfach ueber die Unterschrift schreiben, was du brauchst. Du brauchst aber nicht oft die Unterschrift deiner eltern, oft reicht die Unterschrift deiner Gasteltern, und Unterschriften mit sich rumzutragen, kann auch gefaehrlich sein, also nicht zu viele mitnehmen und gut aufbewahren. |

| If you don't have a travel passport, yet, order it at the city hall at least two months before you leave. To order it, you need two pictures, 25 Mark ($12) and, even if you're already 16, your parent's signature. |
| When you have your passport, you can order your visa. As a student, you need the J-1 visa and the student visa IAP-66. I was sent the IAP-66 by my organisation, so I don't know, how you get it, if your organistion doesn't take care of that. The IAP-66 consists of three pages that you have to fill in and that you have to send to Frankfurt, along with the order for the J-1 visa, your passport, a letter from your parents, some pictures, some other papers and a money order of 100 Mark ($50). All of that is only a lot of paper stuff, but your organisation should help you with ordering the visa, if not, you can get information at your city hall. So there shouldn't be any problems. |
| During your stay, your organisation might need the permission of you parents in Germany for different occasions, like traveling with your hostfamily or alone, so they won't have the responsibility if something happens to you. Sometimes, also your school needs the signature of your parents, for field trips for example. So don't forget to get a letter from your parents before you leave, saying that you can travel alone through the US. If your parents trust you enough, ask them for some empty sheets of paper that have their signature on the bottom, so that you can write whatever you need above the signature, if you don't have time to wait for a letter from home. But you won't need your parents signature most of time, your hostparents can sign most of the papers you need for school, and having signatures with you can be dangerous, too, so don't take too many and don't loose them. |
