| Auf dem Flug wirst du erstmal viel Zeit zum Nachdenken haben, denn selbst der geschwaetzigste Nachbar ist in den acht Stunden, die es ungefaehr dauert, mal ruhig. Und mit guten Filmen werden die Passagiere nicht unbedingt verwoehnt. Das ist dann der Moment, wenn du dir langsam richtig Gedanken machst, wie deine Familie denn wirklich ist oder wer sie ueberhaupt ist, falls du, wie viele andere, die Adresse deiner Gastfamilie erst am Flughafen erfahren hast. Du machst dir vielleicht Sorgen, ob ihr euch versteht, ob du das ganze Jahr wirklich alleine meisteren kannst und ob dich deine Freunde in der langen Zeit nicht vergessen. Falls du meine Erzaehlungen und auch Berichte anderer Austauschschueler gelesen hast, weisst du aber, dass ein Austauschjahr in den wenigsten Faellen eine schlechte Erfahrung ist. Versuch dich abzulenken, auf den langweiligen Film im Flugzeug zu konzentrieren und warte auf das "leckere" Essen. Nur erwarte nicht, das Paradies zu betreten, wenn in deinem Gast land ankommst und mach dir keine Traumvorstellungen von deiner neuen Heimat zu machen, damit du nicht schon am Flughafen entaeuscht bist. Du wirst an einen Ort kommen, der dir für ein Jahr ein zu Hause sein wird. Das bedeutet, es wird sehr gute und wahrscheinlich auch sehr schlechte Zeiten geben. Freu dich einfach auf massenhaft neue Erfahrungen, die dein Leben echt verändern können. |
| Auf deinem Flug werden noch einmal einige Papiere auszufuellen sein. Der Zoll will wissen, ob du wertvolle Sachen mit dir nimmst (zum Beispiel CDplayer, Laptop) und deren Wert. Fuer alles ueber $10.000 (etwa 20,000 DM) musst du Zoll bezahlen. |
| During the flight you'll have a lot of time to think for even the most eloquent neighbour shuts up for a while in those eight hours of flight. And most times passengers won't be spoiled by good movies. That's the moment when you really start wondering what your family will be like or, moreover, who they will be. That's the case if you, like many others, only got your hostfamily's adress at the airport. Maybe you'll start worrying if you can get along well with your hostfamily, if you can manage that whole year all by yourself and if your friends won't forget about you in such a long time. If you've read about my experiences and those of other host students you'll know that an exchange year very rarely turns out to be a bad experience. Try to distract yourself, concentrate on the boring movie on the plane and wait for the "yummy" food. Just don't expect to enter paradise when you arrive in your host country and don't get some dreamy ideas about how it'll be, so you won't be disappointed when you arrive. You will come to a place which will be your home for a long time. That means there'll be very good and propably also very bad times. Just look forward to tons of new experiences that will change you life. |
| On your flight you'll have to fill in some more papers. For tax reasons they'll want to know if you bring any valuable things (e.g. CD-Players, Laptops) and their value. If the value is more than $10.000 you'll have to pay tax. |
