All images shown on this page have been supplied through the kind courtesy of Mr. Peter Lee, of Singapore. They are from the collections of his father, Mr. Lee Kip Lee, and uncle, Mr. Lee Kip Lin, and are not to be used for any purpose, whatsoever, without permission of the owners.

Photograph showing private Lee Chim Huk, at left, with two of his Singapore Volunteer Corps buddies, Lee Pang Seng (seated), and Yap Tai Chong (standing, right). Lee Chim Huk was born in 1889, and died in 1958. He served as a private, in the Chinese Company of the Singapore Volunteer Corps from October 21, 1914 until his discharge on September 11, 1919. On August 18, 1922, he re-enlisted in the same Company, and was promoted acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant, in 1924. He was honorably discharged on February 27, 1928. The date of the photo is unknown, but was probably taken sometime between 1922 and 1924, due to the fact that there are no rank insignia on Lee's uniform.

The discharge certificate issued to Lee Chim Huk, on his discharge from the Singapore Volunteer Corps, in 1919. A similar document would have been issued to all members of the Corps after discharge, during that period.

The reverse side of the document shown in the previous image. This page showed the soldier's efficiency record during his term of service. Note the signature of lieutenant colonel J.A.R. Glennie, the commandant of the Singapore Volunteer Corps at that time.

Mr. Lee's discharge certificate for his second term of service.

An excellent article written by the commander of the Chinese Company, Captain Yap Pheng Geck, in the Straits Times, relating to the circumstances surrounding the fate of a large number of the members of "E" Company of the Singapore Voilunteer Corps, after the Japanese occupation of Singapore, in February, 1942 - Chinese Volunteers in the Concentration Camp.
