Weddings and Families of Singapore.

by Terry Foenander.

Shown here are a few photographs from my collection, of weddings, friends and family gatherings of past and present colleagues in Singapore.

The wedding day, March 17, 1985, of a very old friend,
from way back in the 1960's,
Hassan Sahar and his wife Aieni.
This view shows a traditional
Muslim wedding in Singapore.
A later view of Hassan, Aieni,
and their offspring. Hassan has been
with the Industrial and Commercial Bank for many years.

Former Customs Officer, David Chan,
shown here on his wedding day, with his wife,
Maria. David is now with Singapore Airlines.
David was only in the Customs department for a short while before moving on to SIA.
However, we did hang around in a select group, with our mentor being the ever versatile,
and comedic Kwek Buck Chua.

Chris Rio, with his wife Christine, on their wedding day, February 12, 1984.
They are accompanied by the best man, Jimmy Tan,
bridesmaid, Ann Tan, page boy, Alvin,
and flower girl, Tricia. I have known Chris since the mid-60's.

Stephen Pereira, an old boy of St. Patrick's School,
has been in touch with me since school days,
and is one of the few from that period, who still do. Here he is shown on his wedding day, in 1987,
with wife Venetia.

A family photograph of April Tan
(shown at far left), with her husband, Siow Phing
(shown standing in center) at the birthday of
her daughter, together with friends and family.

Who is this weird looking creep?
I hear you ask.
Well, he isn't a creep, and neither is he weird.
He can be seen some years later, in the view at right.
This particular view was taken in January, 1977
Yes, there he is standing at the extreme right, in this image
taken in 1997. This view shows, from left to right, standing,
Edwin Rio and his wife Carol, who is holding their child;
John Healey, Christine Rio, Monica Healey are shown next,
and then Lillian (holding Chris's son, also named Chris) and Matthew Tan;
seated are Chris Rio and Mark Tan.

Eric Lim was an old work colleague, who was employed at Fullerton Building,
in the Government Import and Export Registrar office,
during the early to mid-70's. Here he is shown with his son, Elwin, at his music store, called,
DISC PLANET, in September, 1997.

Dol, an old friend from the early or mid-60's,
has got to be one of the nicest persons around.
He was the son of a prison warder, and we used to hang around together with several young lads,
fishing, camping, swimming, and doing all the other activities that young boys get up to.
Dol is shown here with his wife, in September, 1997.

William D'Cruz was another old boy of St. Patrick's School.
He is shown here with his mother and sister,
at their Jalan Asas home in April, 1981.

Hilton Ho was a work colleague of mine,
in the Customs and Excise Department,
in the early 1970's. He is shown here on his wedding day in 1978, with wife, Felicia.

Mark Tan is the brother of Matthew Tan, the hippie-type
shown in the black and white view above.
Mark, shown here with his wife, Sharon, in 1997, is a professional advertiser.
His father was also employed in the Rehabilitation department in Singapore,
and our ties go way back into the late '60's.

Richard Siow is an old boy from St. Patrick's School,
who has made it big in the business world. He has been business manager of a royal jelly company,
but is now a partner in the firm of McLaren and Siow.
Richard is shown here with his wife, Nancy, on their wedding day, December 20, 1981.
Contact with him often evokes memories of those days so long ago.

Try not to go too far, and please return soon, as I will be adding more photographs to a second page.
