BIOGRAPHY OF MADLEEN KANE

Born in the south of Sweden, often mistaken as being French, Madleen's childhood was marked with overseas travel, music lessons, dancing lessons and ..luxury. Her father was a piano maker and her mother was an American from San Francisco.

Madleen's career actually began as a fashion model. The demure blond was a highly sought after print and runway model in her teenage years. She was an exclusive Ford Model and for a time lived with agent/agency owner Eileen Ford and her family.

But she says she really didn't enjoy it. "I actually modeled to earn money for singing lessons," said Madleen. "I have always wanted to sing...I used to sing in the church" claimed Madleen. At nineteen she got her chance when she met Jean Claude Friederich. His Boona Music Productions company signed her to a recording contract and quickly paired her with top notch talent like Thor Baldurson and Jurgen Koppers.

By the summer of 1978, the then 20 year old Madleen was a hot singing commodity. Her first album "Rough Diamond" took off like wildfire, not only here in America, but also across the globe. The title track went to number one on the dance charts and earned her a gold record. The album also included "Touch My Heart" and "Fever," club hits as well.

-You And I (7”)

By 1979 with the release of her second album, "Cheri," Madleen's career as a singer was firm. The entire first side of the album was presented in medley form, artfully mixed by Jim Burgess. Aided by a commercial 12" single release "Forbidden Love," Madleen once again rose to the top of the charts and another gold record followed. Around this time she turned down a request from "Hollywood" to star in a film with Jack Nicholson. "I didn't want to live in Hollywood" said Madleen. If that seems quirky....well that's Madleen. This is the same girl that would not go up to a business meeting at her record label because of her fear of elevators. Although she does admit, "Acting would be nice as long as I don't become an object." After years of modeling and being "someone else" before the cameras she was determined from now on to be herself.

1980: SOUNDS OF LOVE (LP Chalet 0701)

-Movie Girl
-You Made Me Real
-Cherchez Pas
-Change Of Heart
-Move Me With Your Love
-Boogie Talk
-Music Makes My Night

SINGLE RELEASES:

-Cherchez Pas/Move Me With Your Love (7” edits)
-Cherchez Pas (12”)

The next album "Sounds Of Love" came with an excellent song, "Cherchez Pas." Perhaps because of her lack of personal appearances or the changing musical scene of 1980, this album did not produce a number one hit. "Cherchez Pas" was a big club song but it couldn't carry the weight of the whole album in sales.

1981: DON'T WANNA LOSE YOU (LP Chalet 0702)

-You Can
-The Lonely One
-Playing For Time
-Treat Me Like A Lady
-Don't Wanna Lose You

SINGLE RELEASES:

-Playing For Time (7” & 12” Extended version)
-Fire In My Heart (7” & 12”)

Quickly rebounding with a collaboration with superstar producer Giorgio Moroder, Madleen's career and success were back on track. Their 1981 release "Don't Wanna Lose You" spawned three 12" single hits: "You Can", "Playing For Time" and "Fire In My Heart." These songs were all huge club hits. This proved that although radio was not playing her records anymore, she could still pack a dance floor and sell records.

1985: COVER GIRL (LP TSR Records TSR 1017)

-On Fire
-Ecstacy
-I'm No Angel
-Love Bandit
-Crying My Heart Out (I. A. Stephens/P.Parker)

All songs written by Paul Parker except were noted
Produced by Ian A. Stephens

SINGLE RELEASES:

-On Fire (TSR Records 12”)
-Ecstacy (TSR Records 12”)
-I'm No Angel (TSR Records 12”)

The next few years were spent in seclusion until producer Ian Anthony Stephens was able to coax her out of semi-retirement. Stephens was on a roll in 1985. His success with fellow writer Paul Parker and Hazell Dean had brought him to TSR Records. So for their project together it was a natural that it would be released on TSR. "Cover Girl" was an international success. The ensuing 12" single releases "I'm No Angel" and "On Fire" were instant club favorites and sold as well as their LP counterpart. Sadly Madleen tired of the whole recording scene and this was to be her last album.
