1. What was life for you before you discovered acting?
I was actually a very shy and self-conscious person before I discovered acting. It was in grade 12 that I took Theatre Arts and fell in love with the stage.
2. What was your first role ever?
I was a waitress in a play called "Fritz of Arnhem". It ran twice, both here in Saint John and in Fredericton.
3. What was your first directing role?
I directed "The Three Burglars" in February of 2003. It was a play submitted during our first big submission campaign written by Scott Marshall. I'd never really had much desire to direct, but I really wanted to see this play put on. I enjoyed the experience for the most part; I think it made me a better actress.
4. Which would be the bigger hell, being forced to watch all of the movies reviewed on Couch Critics “Clockwork Orange” style or doing a play and EVERYONE in the audience saying stuff like, “Whoop, there it is” or “WHOOO, right on!”
Ha ha! I enjoyed "Clockwork Orange" so... :-P
5. What song best describes you?
Oh! That's a tough one. Strangely enough, even with my love of karaoke, I'm not a big music fan. I have favorite songs that come and go. I think it depends on what's going on at any given moment in my life.
6. How did you two come up with the idea for the “Uptown Downlo” ?
Dre and I decided that Stuck TV was suffering from serious testosterone poisoning and needed a woman's touch. We had a bunch of ideas of what we'd like to do, and instead of trying to chose just one, we decided on a variety show of sorts.
7. What has been your favorite play to direct?
Ha ha! Well, since there's only been the one.... :-P
8. If you could choose between Gilbert Gottfried, David Arquette and Jimmy Fallon to be with on a deserted island, who would you pick?
Hmm... Probably David Arquette. I don't think I'd ever get bored.
9. What is one thing that Saint John could improve on?
How to pick just one? I think that it’s more the people that could improve this, not the city itself. There are so many people who go on and on about how little there is to do in Saint John, and that's really not true. Saint John has so much to offer, especially now, that people really are not making the most of it. We've got great art galleries, get shows being done by the SJTC and SJTC: Second Stage, talented local bands, and so much more. If people were to get out there instead of bitching and complaining, they'd realize that Saint John is a great city to live in.
10. What has been your favorite acting role to do?
Wow, that is a hard one. While I haven't had lead roles, I've had a number of pretty juicy small ones. Some of my all time favorites would be 'Glenna' in David Mamet's "Bobby Gould in Hell", 'Eve' in "They're None of Them Perfect",
'Alexis' is "A Doomsday Clock", and definitely 'Eunice' in "A Streetcar Named Desire".
11. If there were a movie being made about you, who would you want to portray as you?
Kirsten Dunst or Rachel MacAdam. They are both incredibly talented young actresses.
12. What was it like to be in Streetcar and how would you compare it to past main stage shows you’ve been in the past?
In 'Elephant Man' I was for all intents and purposes costumed crew. 'Cyrano' had such a crazy rehearsal schedule, only four weeks, so the director was more worried about the main roles.'Streetcar' was a great experience. My part was just big enough that I was present at most of the rehearsals and I really got to see the process of putting together a big production. Stephen was great to work with, and I really learned a lot.
13. You have a sledgehammer, a midget, a roulette wheel and a bullhorn, what are your plans for the evening?
Whatever they are, the midget is going to get the worst hand of the deal. :-P
14. What would be the role that you would want to do more than any other role?
Definitely Margaret-Maggie the Cat- in Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". She's a brillant character, strong and loving.
15. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully I'll be getting leads in main stage shows, but I'd like to see Second Stage grow into something more.
16. What has been the craziest gift an actor or a director has given you?
I don't think I've ever received a crazy gift. One of the best was from Scott Marshall, who wrote and played the mime in 'The Three Burglars'. He gave all the cast members mini-flasks with their character names on it. He gave me one that had the name of the mob boss you never meet in the show. I really treasure it.
17. What can the public expect from Saint John Main Stage/Second Stage?
As we go on, people are going to see the quality of the shows continue to increase. One of the goals we have for Second Stage is to have 'Theatre on the Edge' expand so that it is eventually a fringe festival.
18. And the cats that browse the Internet expect from StuckTV?
Ha ha! You'll have to talk to Anthony about that!
19. Which do you find more appealing to act in, stage or film?
Definitely live productions. I don't consider film to be real acting, it is merely rehearsing in front of a camera. The process of learning and rehearsing a show is invaluable, and unlike film, if you mess up on stage, you've got to get yourself out of it, you can't just call cut.
20. Final comments, anything to plug?
