1. What was life for you before StuckTV?
So incredibly different! Well, ok, not really, pretty much the same as now.
I'm a 25-year-old graphic designer who's lived in saint john the last 6
years. I have a lot of fun hanging out with a fun and creative group of
friends.
2. How was StuckTV created?
Basically I have always been interested in working with video, and more then anything it’s a way for me to learn and get comfortable with it it. I hope eventually do some short films. Other then that it is just a lot of fun to do it.
3. What’s the process of making an episode of Couch Critics and I Cook It You Eat It?
I can't only speak for Couch Critics, but some parts are much the same. We get together, usually having some idea what movie we're going to do, watch the movie and take not of interesting bits we'd like to mention and if need be, record parts of the movie in order to make up a trailer. The movies we've watched are far to old to find a trailer on the web. When we did SnakeEater we laughed about the fact that our trailer in the show was the only SnakeEater trailer on the web.
In the last 2 episodes, we've had a theme, that’s something that will likely stick. For instance, for Carnosaur, we had a Carnosaur breakfast and ate lots of meat. Setting up the theme for use in the intro is probably as much or more fun then the review. Then we set the camera up, and sometimes with the help of a camera person,
sometimes just with a tripod, we record an opening, cut to trailer, banter a bit, and conclude the review with a rating on a scale related to the theme of the movie. I make it sound much more planned then it is, we improv it for the most part. After that I head to the eMac in my office and I edit for an hour or so, adding titles, music, etc. I use iMovie for importing and editing, and then export for a web sized movie. Whew! Feel free to snip this answer down.
4. You’ve done some acting in the past, what has been your favorite role or roles?
Definatly Art, the art teacher in PANTS. It was a fun role, a GREAT play by Dan Culberson and was so surprisingly well received that it was a thrill to be in it.
5. How was the “self appointed CEO of StuckTV” Gusford Chapeau created?
Um, not a very thrilling story. I went to zellers to buy an air hockey table on a whim. Dan was bored while I was waiting to pay for it, so he went and bought a puppet on a whim. He had seen it in the store before and that planted the idea in his head. Him and I are very prone to impulse buying.
6. What are the differences between Saint John Second Stage and Saint John Main Stage?
Main stage shows are of course, at the imperial, are well known productions in most cases, and have actors who are usually, although not professional, experienced. Second stage is where anyone new to theatre can come and try out, and have a better chance at a part if they are new, because there are 3-4 plays in an evening and because directors look for potential more then existing skill. It also features local writers and novice directors. For a lot of those reasons I actually enjoy Second Stage shows more then mainstage plays. With second stage you always know you are really going to see something unique.
7. What are “Comedy Knights”?
What WERE you should say. Even though we have a show on Tuesday the 24th, it is more of a reunion show then anything. It's basically an improv troupe with a Who's line is it anyway format. We have our own original games and some you would recognize from the show you see on tv.
8. What is the worst song ever in existence?
I probably change my opinion on that to often to say. But the one that pops into mind is Lady Marmalade. That song sucks ass. It's all the more
annoying since women still like it.
9. If you ever started your own band, what would you call it?
Well, I did once, or rather, started one with Dan Culberson and Scott
Marshall. We practiced once and wrote and recorded one song. We were called 'The Ir'Vings'. Seemed funny at the time.
10. If you could improve one thing in Saint John, what would it be?
Well, I would like to see more cultural diversity. Maybe a little more
culture would keep some of the rednecks in control. As it is this is one of the only cities where you can go to a theatre and hear some asshole yelling WHOOOOOOOO in approval.
11. Of all the pictures on your site as of now, which is your personal
favorite? Hmmm, probably, shamefully, it's one of the Many Faces of Me photos I put together as a gag. Either High Roller, from a murder mystery party, or Indisposed, taken from inside an outhouse at the Boistown Woodsmen Museum
12. Which is the better hockey team, the Saint John Flames, or the Thunder Cats?
I have no idea. Hockey went to shit as soon as there were more then 6 teams. I like playing it, went to a few flames games, enjoyed it ok, but not my favorite thing.
13. Which is the better cartoon, Simpsons or Family Guy?
I am offended you would even ask. The family guy has some clever things, but it was all shock value. Simpsons will likely remain one of the best of all time. Although I thought Futurama was even better then the Simpsons.
14. What is your favorite memory of everything involving the recent “Evening of One Act plays” at the NB Museum on February 6 and 7?
Lisa kissing Kristi.
15. If a movie was made based on your life, who would you want to portray you?
That movie couldn't afford anyone well known. I'd want them to pick some
slack designer just out of college who doesn't like to shave.
16. You have a bicycle pump, a copy of the script of Mallrats, an Olivia Newton John album and a sledgehammer. What are your plans for the evening?
I would pump up my bike tires, drive Lisa to the imperial, use a sledgehammer to get in, crank the ONJ and serenade Lisa with the smooth words of Kevin Smith.
17. Do you think Trailer park Boys is an honest representation of the
Maritimes?
Ha, honest? Well, its a little extreme sometimes, but it is scary how many people I've known that could be on the show.
18. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Probably here. Hopefully I've been somewhere else in between now and then.
19. What can we expect from StuckTV and stuckinsaintjohn.com in the near
future?
More diverse content hopefully for stuckTV, stuckinsaintjohn in general will keep rolling along as my blog, unless I move cities.
20. Any final comments? Anything you want to plug?
Check out STUCKTV every week! and if you do check my blog, comment, let me know you were there, it makes me feel warm inside.
