Brant, Branta bernicla
	Brant found along the Pacific Coast are of the Black Brant (nigricans) subspecies, with all-dark underparts; the bird directly above, shows lighter worn underparts, and may be a first winter bird. The East Coast subspecies, hrota, shown at the bottom, is identified by the lighter underparts.
				These Brant, from Long Island Sound, are the eastern pale-bellied subspecies, hrota.
