This bird, a rarity in the Bay Area, was spotted in a flock of wintering White-crowned and Golden-crowned Sparrows in Bayfront Park, Menlo Park, by an alert local birder. Thereafter many Bay Area birders got good looks at it. Lark Buntings breed in the northern Great Plains, and normally winter in the southwest and Mexico.
