+Vacations, June 10-17, 2007 and June 22-29, 2008. Family vacations renting houses on the beach in Haena, north shore of Kauai; great times snorkeling at Tunnels, being grandparents, etc.. I brought my and 400DO and a camera, and got pictures of basic local birds around our house, and seabirds at Kilauea Lighthouse NWR.
*Trip, January 4-14, 2005. From 1/4-7 we stayed in La Paz on our own and I took bird photos along the Malecon there, an excellent spot for close approach to herons, shorebirds, gulls, and terns, with frigatebirds overhead. 1/8-14 we were on a Lindblad / National Geographic tour with about 60 companions, 1/8-10 in the Gulf of California aboard the Sea Bird, visiting Isla San Jose, Isla San Francisco, Los Islotes, Isla Partida and the surrounding gulf waters. On 1/11 we were in El Fuerte, Sinaloa, where we had a very birdy late afternoon raft float on the El Fuerte River. On 1/12 we took the famous train ride to Copper Canyon, and stayed the following two nights at the Hotel Mirador on the canyon rim. I spent much the day on 1/13 taking pictures in the beautiful (and birdy) area around the hotel. Then it was on to Chihuahua on 1/14, and back home.
**Vacation, December 15-31, 2005. We came back to La Paz, renting a house there for a family winter vacation. I did a lot more bird photography along the Malecon, and also in the yard and neighborhood around our house; also one boat trip north along the shore of La Paz Bay, and a day's drive to Todos Santos. I added seven new species to the World list: Cactus Wren, Common Ground-Dove, Crested Caracara, Orange-crowned Warbler, Verdin, White-winged Dove, and Xantus's Hummingbird. I added new pictures of Cassin's Kingbird, Costa's Hummingbird, Magnificent Frigatebird, and Yellow-footed Gull (world list birds), and American Kestrel, American Oystercatcher, Brown Pelican, Caspian Tern, Greater Yellowlegs, Hooded Oriole, Reddish Egret (lots of these!), Royal Tern, Semipalmated Plover, Snowy Egret, Tricolored Heron, and Willet, from the North American list.
