By-Laws of The 15th A.V.I.

1.      The 15th A.V.I. was voted into existence as an Educational and Recreational entity, and is intended to be a non-profit organization.   A “Mission Statement” is an attachment to clearly state the educational and recreational goals of the club.  The club will be known as the 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. G, for purposes of participation in the Washington Civil War Association, and for the purposes of the activity of American Civil War Reenacting.

2.      An official elected Administrative Board will be elected each year, at the general election.  Binding votes must be by quorum.  The Board to consist of the following officers to be designated in the attachment to this document.

3.      An official staff of Field Officers and Non-commissioned officers will be responsible for the operations of the club while “in the field” at all events, etc. and be responsible for safety, as well as for club equipment.

4.      The 15th A.V.I.  accepts no liability or responsibility for injury what so ever, in or out of uniform, at any scheduled event for members or the public in attendance.  Minimum age for membership shall be that established by the WCWA.

5.      All unit Meetings will be chaired by Club President.  In Presidents absence meetings to be chaired by the Vice Pres., or next Administrative Board Officer.

6.      General Elections for the club would be held annually, at the last scheduled event of the club general membership, which shall generally be the last battle event of the season.

7.      Members who wish to run for office must have participated in at least two reenactments and two drills, or three reenactments in order to be eligible.

8.      The unit commander may brevet any member to NCO rank at any event.

9.      Unit powder dues shall be set by the Administrative Board each year, and the formula for setting this fee shall be the responsibility of the Board.

10.    All members must pass the safety test yearly.

11.    All members must follow the rules and regulations set fourth by the 15th Alabama military code of conduct.  Disciplinary action may be taken, including and up to discharge by a majority vote.  Members must also know and comply with the rules of the WCWA, of which the 15th AVI is a member.

12.    Members must obtain their uniforms and needed “period equipment” within one year of membership in order to be able to participate fully in sanctioned and sponsored events.

13.    All members in good standing (dues paid) and have participated with the 15th Alabama in at least two unit events are eligible to vote on unit business.

14.    All members must sign agreeing that they have read and understood the By-laws and Military Code of Conduct.

Military Code of Conduct

 

 

  1. Once camp is established at an event, all members will be in proper military attire and remain so until the event is over.
  2. At events, no tents will be struck until the event is over or unless otherwise directed.
  3. When in uniform, no modern anachronisms will be tolerated.
  4. When in uniform, all orders given by officers and/or NCO’s of this unit will be promptly obeyed.

NOTE: No order will be given which is improper, personally demeaning, or hazardous to personal safety.

  1. When under arms, the strictest compliance with military bearing, courtesy, and etiquette will be observed.
  2. All weapons will be cleaned in the field each evening after firing or the following morning prior to safety inspection.
  3. At events, attendance at all musters, roll calls, and formations is mandatory.
  4. At the end of day’s activities at an event, a general relaxation of normal discipline and military demeanor is permitted (The exception would of course be in the case of a tactical war game where night-time vigilance through posted guards would be necessary). However, basic military respect and conduct will be observed at night.
  5. Only an officer can dispense discipline to a member of the unit.  Standard discipline will be moving the offenders name to the top of the duty roster.

MISSION  STATEMENT

 

 

The club known as the 15th A.V.I., is a non-profit recreational organization.  The club may also be commonly known as the 15th Alabama Infantry. 

 

The 15th AVI is proud to make known the following mission:  The club hereby states its main intent to provide for educational purposes an accurate impression of military and civilian life during the American historical period known as the “War Between the States, 1861-1865”.

 

The club is composed of interested and qualified individuals and families who share the interest in providing a rich historical experience to the general public and other club members of the Washington Civil War Association.  As a recreational entity, the club has no political or military role in current affairs.

 

The club celebrates American history, and is interested in providing good community service for its local community, and other regional communities.
