PRESIDENTS LETTER……  15th A.V.I   March, 2003

SPECIAL NOTE: MEMBERSHIP MEETING
COBWEB EVENT / MARBLEMOUNT WASHINGTON
APRIL 25, 26, 27

It is important that all members be aware that there will be a GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING at the Cobweb event in April.
This is a meeting where the membership will be voting on issues that are very important to the club.
Review of Agenda: Accepting New By-Laws; New Code of Conduct; Adding a formal Mission Statement; Reviewing the budget of the club and also going over the activities planned.
The meeting is tentatively scheduled for after church on Sunday.

There will also be fun at this event: setting up camp, drilling from dawn till dusk, practice loading and firing, and maybe some events that the Captain will think up, such as Taking Over the Town in the name of the Confederacy, etc.

Recruiting will be going on, and some new recruits are to be expected at the event as well. Please mark your calendars now!

NEW PLATOON TO BE FORMED:
The Board has decided to work on establishing a new platoon for the 15th Alabama. This will be an experiment, and could be very good for the 15th, as well as for reenacting in general.
We are going to establish a VENTURE PLATOON. This platoon will be made up primarily of new recruits, who will be joining the 15th, and who will also be part of Boy Scouts of America. They will be doing both.
The members of this platoon will have to be 14 years or older, and they will have to be subject to every rule and duty of the 15th Alabama, and will also be doing other scouting activities and earning badges, etc etc.

At this point, GENE HOPPER is the only member of the 15th who has volunteered to be a leader of this new platoon. Another adult is needed to help with leadership. Rank may be available to these leaders, depending on the numbers of recruits, etc.
3 other members of the 15th will also be needed to provide some mentoring assistance (we have one volunteer for this role already).

We encourage you to volunteer, if interested. This may be a very good opportunity for the club. It may be a larger platoon in time than we can imagine! The scouts will help us with recruiting, and we can do recruiting at the Ferndale School Event in May, as well.
