NMCB 17 NAVY SEABEES Page
"The Desert Battalion"

This page is dedicated to the SEABEES of the 17th Battalion (MCB 17):
NCB 17 (WW II), RNMCB 17 (1961-1990), and NMCB 17 (1990-present).

"With compassion for others, We Build - We Fight, for peace with freedom!"

"Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked."
Nehemiah 4:17-18

The SEABEES of RNMCB 17, 1977

I served with the SEABEES of RNMCB 17, Detachment 0617, during the years of 1977-1980. Being a part of this great group was an honor. Serving with the SEABEES strenghtened my self confidence and showed me what teamwork could accomplish, while making friends and having fun in the process. I had to leave the battalion in early '80 to take care of my family. But the SEABEES will always be a very special part of my life.

Even though we were builders, and spent a lot of time on different construction projects, we also spent a large amount of time in combat training at various locations. Some of our training included things like: physical and weapons training, heavy artillery, communications, land navigation, day/night patrols and ambush, evasion and survival techniques, land mines and boobytraps, rappelling, and first aid.

This page is posted to show a sampling of that training. Below are a set of photos of one of our combat exercises at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, CA. in 1977, another exercise in 1978, and some other photos I have of the U.S. NAVY SEABEES.
