She accepts the hotdog,
Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 2:03 pm
but cocks her head curiously at the comment "Why not? Besides," she adds with a sly smile "It's not my money anyway... it's Tracker's, remember?"
Her stomache makes another little grumble and she holds the fresh hotdog under her nose and takes a whiff. Then, with a shrug, she takes a large bite and smiles. It had been a long time since she'd had anything so tasty, and she savours it as if it were her last meal.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 2:11 pm
He laughs at her comment about Tracker's money. "Still, you might need it later."

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 2:38 pm
She swallows the bite and shrugs "Perhaps," is all she'll commit to. She takes another good look at the hot dog "So, what's on this thing anyway?"

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 5:43 pm
Joey follows along quietly, not really talking much.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 5:55 pm
She strolls along in silence for a while, just generally happy, then "Penny for your thoughts?"

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 5:57 pm
He blinks a couple of times, looking up. "Huh? Oh, um, nothing much. My mind was just wandering."

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 6:06 pm
She only watches his face, a gently curious expression on hers. "What about earlier?" She means before they left the building. She had somehow sensed that he was holding something from her, and wanted to know what. Especially if it was because of her, or... or if something was wrong.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 6:10 pm
"Earlier?" He blinks a couple of times as if trying to remember what they where talking about. Then he remembers. "Oh, nothing. I was kinda spaced out."

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 6:15 pm
She makes a face at him, then looks a little sad. "Please tell me?" she pleads, her voice thick with emotion, something you wouldn't have heard from her two days ago. "I know it's something, I can see that much. And..." she trails off, searching his grey eyes.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 6:24 pm
He blinks, somewhat shocked by her sudden emotion. He ponders it for a moment, trying to decide if it's something he can actually discuss. "And?" He prompts, stalling for time.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 6:31 pm
"And..." she realizes what he's trying to do and makes another face "And if you know what's good for you, you'll tell me!" her eyes, angry and worried with that sentence, change suddenly to pleading, conveying the emotion her voice can't "Trust me... ?" it's somehow more than a question...

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 6:35 pm
"Or else? You must realize that I'm almost impossible to kill..." He answers, being annoying on purpose. "Although there are worse things then death..." He trails off again, his mind wandering.
This mind snaps back to the matter at hand, he answers almost sheepishly. "Let's just leave it at vampires aren't the only ones that are alone."

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 6:49 pm
She listens quietly, and her eyes show the variety of emotions his words. First annoyed, then curious and understanding. At his final confession, her eyes widen ever-so-slightly, then become wet with unshed tears. And I said all those things... oh Joey... but she only looks away and down a little "Oh," she wants to say more, but doesn't think it's a good idea. Just now she feels a kind of connection with him, a closeness of kindred spirits she'd never felt before with anyone.
She turns back to continue down the trail with him, absorbed in her own thoughts.
I wish... she was shocked at herself for what her mind told her, He's an angel... and I was... I... I have no right to... But that didn't change a thing. She finaly gives up trying to argue herself out of it, and instead, How ironic...

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 6:56 pm
He blinks in confusion, wondering if it was something he said. He had never been good with the emotion thing. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he continues walking. Some angel I am...

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 6:59 pm
She reaches a decision and stops abruptly "Alright, you told me. Now I have to tell you something, or I'll go crazy." she starts, her voice and face both full of conviction.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 7:08 pm
He blinks again, wondering just what he's about to hear. "Um, go ahead.." He says hesitently.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 7:13 pm
She looks at him, then something in his eyes crumbles her resolve "I..." she continues hesitantly, wishing for a moment he could just read her mind and emotions and get it over with without her having to say it aloud. Why did I think I could tell him? she looks down, away from his eyes and a tear falls to the pavement unnoticed. How could I have been so silly to... to fall... she looks away and takes a breath.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 7:16 pm
He glances at her sideways, wondering what exactly is wrong. He hoped he hadn't screwed up on the healing process. When she drops her gaze and he spots the tear that's fallen to the ground he really begins to worry. "Eliza?" He asks worriedly.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 7:30 pm
"Changeling," she correts him without thinking, her voice quiet, then she laughs at what she just said. It sounds more like a sob than a laugh, and she stops almost immediately "Sorry, force of habit..." she sniffs and blinks a few times before turning back to him. She doesn't look him in the eye though, that would just start her off again. There's a kind of quiet defiance in her voice as she continues the thought she'd started before "I havn't known you long Joey, but..." and here she does lift her black eyes, shining with a rebellious intensity "But I've never been one to hide my opinion..." she pauses there and takes a short breath to steady her nerve "I love you Joey." it's stated as a fact, her voice steady and filled with the quiet rebellion that was in her eyes.
As soon as she says that, she turns on her heel and strides away, almost running.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 7:41 pm
He blinks at the sudden correction of her name. She had seem so happy earlier to give her real name. He blinks, more concerned then ever when she sob-laughs. He accepts the apology confusedly. "Um, no probelm."
He blinks in confusion agin when she starts once more, partly worried that he'd done something to anger her. He listens to it all, too stunned to say much. When she finally finishs he flushes, his ears going red.
He watches stunned, as she walks away. The other half of his mind wondering if he had screwed something up and unbalanced her mind. He blinks again, too stunned to listen to the comments of the other half as Changeling walks away. Should he go after her?

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 7:50 pm
She doesn't look back or pause untill she rounds a corner. Then she sits heavily on a deserted park bench and gazes out at the scenery in front of her, looking somewhat stunned. Did I actually say that? Oh no... her worry is about what he'll think of her, but she doesn't let it cross her mind. Instead, she trys to keep her mind carefully blank. It's not working. The way he looked in the sunlight at the window keeps popping in, no matter how hard she tries to close her mind to the memory.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 7:55 pm
He thinks it over, should he go after her? He didn't want to upset her any more, but letting anyone stalk off like this was a bad idea, let alone a former vampire who wasn't used to being human. With that decision made Joey goes after her, worrying for a moment when she disappears around a corner. He walks slowly for a bit, as if he was strolling along, but realizing that he wasn't fooling anyone and that he might loose Changeling he picks up speed and tries to catch up with her. He's relieved to find her sitting on a park bench. He stops in front of it, silent. He can't think of a thing to say. After all, what could he say? He's probably just make a mess of it anyway....

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 7:59 pm
She looks up at him silently, managing a tiny semblance of a smile, then looks away and scoots over a little, making a place for him to sit beside her.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:03 pm
He sits beside her silently, wishing for once that his limited telepathy would actually work when he wanted it to for once.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 8:09 pm
She wants to say something... anything... maybe appologise... maybe not...
But she doesn't trust herself with words right now, and she finds herself wishing, just a little bit, for some of her vampiric abilities... empathetic projection and reception especially.
So she just sits beside him, silently reflecting, and some part of her takes the moment to enjoy her day in the sun.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:10 pm
He continues to sit silently, not sure what to say of if he wanted to say anything at all.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 8:15 pm
She chances a quick glance in his direction, but it was too much and she has to look away again. She feels a slow heat come to her face and neck, but doesn't realize what it it. She figures that it's just the sun warming her up. If she could see the blush creeping up on her, she'd probably laugh.. or not.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:20 pm
Considering the fact that his ears and cheeks are still red, there's no way he's going to laugh. He had healed vampire's before and gotten strange offers of gratitude, but this was a new one on him.
Another matter takes his mind quickly off the matter of Changelings confession. He could feel someone that needed help, not far away.. "I'll be right back..." Is all he says before standing and heading out.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 8:27 pm
She watches him go, a jumbled mix between relieved and concerned. As soon as he's out of sight she glances around to make sure there were no observers, and shimmers into one of her favorite forms, the falcon. She delights in it's sharp vision and acute hearing, and spreads her wings for takeoff.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:33 pm
Joey rushes to the rescue, when he arrives at the scene he's almost glad to see that some kid has fallen in the lake and that it's not a mutant riot. After rescuing the kid, and returning him to his greatful mother the dripping Joey returns to the park bench. He's more then a little worried when he finds that Changeling has disappeared. "Now what do I do?" He asks himself quietly aloud.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 8:40 pm
She soars above, watching the people below curiously. It had been a long time since she'd had to pass as a human, and she was a little out of date. Sort of.
She watches Joey return and flies lower.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:44 pm
Joey stands worriedly, still dripping. Running his fingers through his wet silver hair to try and get it presentable again he looks skyward for no paticular reason. Spotting the falcon overhead he smiles, there must be some great thermals today, it was too bad he was missing them. He sits down on the bench, hoping that Changeling will show up eventually. Taking off his trenchcoat he tries wringing it out.

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 8:49 pm
She couldn't smile, but she was all but laughing inside. She wishes she could fly with him, and by the way he looked up at the falcon that was Changeling, he wished he could fly too. An idea hits her and she calls out in the falcon's voice. It was perfect!
She swoops lower, lower... and lands on the bench beside Joey and looks at him with her intense black eyes. When she's sure he's gotten a good look at her, she turns and wings to a tree nearby...

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 8:57 pm
He's concentrating on the trenchcoat, wishing that he would have remebered to take it off before he dove in the lake. He holds it up in front of him, drying it out was a hopeless cause. With a shrug he puts it back on, and notices the bird on the bench beside him. He smiles, what'duya know. He was always trying to get birds and squirels and such to come down when he was a kid, and now one was sitting beside him. That's when the bird's eyes register. He blinks at the bird, curious. When it takes off, flitting to another branch, he follows it mostly out of curiousity. It couldn't be Changeling, could it?

Posted by Changeling on 10/22/2001, 9:05 pm
If she could've laughed she would. It was working! Oh, this was wonderful! She wasn't sure if it was the joy in her familiar form, or the fact that she was truly having fun that made her more happy.
She goes on, leading him further and further from town with each treebranch. Soon, they arrive a little way outside of town and she stops, looking out over the deserted beach she'd brought them to. She had loved to fly here, and there were no humans for miles; it was supposed to be a private beach. She wasn't sure why, but no one ever visited, not even at the peak of summer. Even the rebels stayed away. It was unusual, but she took the chance when one presented itself.
She looks over the beach, sensing the incredible thermals rising off the sand, and takes to the wing once more, soaring high above in lazy circles.

Posted by Joey on 10/22/2001, 9:18 pm
He follows the bird from branch to branch, his curiousity growing as they get further and further from town. He looked around at the deserted beach, hoping that the bird was indeed Changeling and not someone that was supposed to lead him into a trap. He looks around, wondering why this place was so empty. He could sense the thermals rising from the hot sands. It was sooo tempting. With another quick, almost suspicious glance around he makes sure that there's no one in the area. The bird above him seemed to want him to fly, so he would fly. He might regret it later, but right now the thermals were calling.
He extended his wings, almost by magic they appear through the almost invisible slits in the back of the trench coat. He extends them once, just to get the kinks out, then takes off running across the sands. A few seconds later he lifts his feet and soars into the perfect blue sky. He does a few barrel rolls out of pure joy. It was so good to be off the ground again!

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 2:24 pm
She calls out with the falcon's voice, proud and free, and happy. She flies with him in that form a little while, darting back and forth around him in an exceptional show of aerial acrobatics.
After a while, when the sun was approaching it's zenith and the day is warm, the falcon soars a little higher, the amazing thermals taking her up to the low hanging clouds. She disappears for a moment behind the fluffy whiteness of one.
Suddenly, with a flurry of shimmering pale gold feathers, she burst from the cloud cover, no longer a falcon. She glides lower, closer to Joey, and laughs joyously, spiraling and dancing on the air much the same way he had, in the joy of flight.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 2:32 pm
He enjoys the sun and the wind. It had been too long since he'd just been able to fly. On top of it all, the constant stream of air was drying his coat out.
Changeling isn't the only one that is doing acrobatics. After doing a few stunts Joey flys lazily, just enjoying being in the air.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 2:37 pm
She soars high, then sweeps her wings back and dives toward the sea, only to pull up at the last moment, barely brushing the cresting waves with her fingertips.
She laughs happily at her last play, then soars higher, smiling serenely and lazily circling the good thermals.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 2:39 pm
He follows her dive, not quite as gracefully and just avoids plowing into the waves. Winging back up he grins sheepishly.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 2:41 pm
She laughs, but not at him. This was the most fun she'd ever had.
They enjoy the thermals untill it starts to cool off in the mid afternoon.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 2:42 pm
He frowns at the ground as he slowly starts to decend.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 2:46 pm
She follows, the serene smile still on her face as she brakes for a landing. When her feet touch the ground her wings fall away in a dust of shimmering gold. She sighs and looks out towards the beach longingly, wishing that there were more hours in a day, or atleast more sunlight.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 2:50 pm
He lands gently, closing his wings in a small storm of iridesent feathers. He collects them all, shoving them in the pockets of his trenchcoat. He turns back to look at the sky overhead, a wistful smile on his face.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 2:56 pm
She smiles at the feathers and picks one up that landed near her foot. She takes the first feather he gave her from her pocket and compares the two, then smiles and tucks both behind her ear. They stand out prettyly against her dark chestnut hair.
The sun is going down, and it's getting cooler. Maybe it's time to head home. Something at the back of her mind wonders where Joey'll sleep, but she'd not terribly worried. Instead, she focuses her attention on the beautiful sunset behind the city.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 5:41 pm
Joey smiles a bit when she puts the feathers in her hair, then turns to look at the fading sun. He watches it go down silently, thinking. Night was not his favorite time.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 5:49 pm
She feels his slight discomfort at the comming night and moves closer reflexively. "Where will you stay tonight?"

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 5:51 pm
He shrugs. "I don't honestly know. Curl up on a park bench someplace and wait to disappear.."

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 5:56 pm
She raises and eyebrow and refrains from laughing. "You could always stay in the office again," she says by way of invitation.
She watches the sun set with a twinge of dread herself. Maybe it'd be best if he stayed... just in case.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 5:58 pm
He nods this thanks silently.
"I might.." He says, still staring at the setting sun.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:04 pm
The air fills with night noises as the sun sinks below the horizon, and Changeling wishes she could just fly back to the office. Somehow, since becoming un-vampire, she's aquired a fear of the dark... more specifically what she couldn't see in the dark. She had no way of knowing what lay around the corner in wait, and it frightened her as much as it frightened a normal human.
She turns to Joey and suggests that they leave soon, before the last light fades and it gets too dark.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:06 pm
"Sounds good to me." He answers quietly. The silver haired teen is beginning to glow faintly.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:10 pm
She glances at him, remembering the first night they met... was it really only two days ago? It felt like forever, so much had happened. She starts foreward down a little used pathway that led fom the beach to the city.
"Is there any way to turn that off?" she reffers to the glow around him that gets brighter as the sky gets darker.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:13 pm
"Well, not really. I can open my wings and the glow will go away, but they're even more noticeable then the glow." He says sheepishly, just a trace of annoyance colors his reply. He's wished that he could turn the glow off himself many times.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:18 pm
She smiles understandingly, having had the same problem, or almost the same anyway, with her fangs. They had been the only thing she couldn't change, no matter what form she took, and they often made her stick out like a sore thumb... Who ever heard of a hummingbird with fangs? She considers possibilities "Maybe you could open your wings and put my cloak over them...?" she suggests. She really didn't want to meet any trouble right now...

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:20 pm
"That might look just a tad bit funny..." he points out.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:26 pm
She pauses to shrug, and her golden wings appear under her cloak. Glancing back at the strange lumps they form she shrugs again and they disappear leaving a single feather to float to the ground behind her. "Oh well." and she smiles appologetically at him.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:28 pm
He shrugs somewhat apologetically. "I'm not really made for being out at night."

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:32 pm
She almost laughs, but manages to contain herself "I wasn't exactly made for being out in the daytime..." she touches her previously pale cheek where a sunburn had started to redden. This time she does laugh, and continues down the sidewalk towards the city.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:35 pm
He laughs, "We make a fine pair." He follows quietly.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:44 pm
That gets a subdued giggle out of her "Me glowing with a sunburn, and you just glowing!" she doesn't say anything about the other thought his comment brought to mind.
They had been quite a ways away from the abandoned warehouse at the beach, so it would be a long walk... in the dark...
Maybe we should just fly there...

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:47 pm
"I could fix that, the sunburn I mean..." He holds his hand up and what looks like a little spark of lightening dances around his index finger.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:50 pm
She touches her flaming cheeks and seems to consider "Will I get a tan?" a little smile lifts one corner of her mouth and her eyes sparkle mirthfully.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 6:52 pm
He ponders this for a moment. "Maybe!"

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 6:57 pm
She laughs, then remembers something and her eyes cloud over "What happens when you heal? Last time, you woke up with my fangs..." her voice is heavy with worry. It seems that somehow when she left the vampire behind, she gaind back all of her emotions with an intensity that she couldn't controll yet.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 7:03 pm
"When it's something serious the symptoms usually stick around for awhile. When it's something minor my healing takes care of it right away and it doesn't show." He answers quietly, taking a quick peek around to make sure no one hears.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 7:11 pm
She also looks around, a little alarmed that she hadn't thought about that before asking, and continues "So you take it on yourself..." she whispers, mostly to herself. She didn't want to cause him any harm, even if it was just for a moment. Besides, she wasn't worth even a moment of pain.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 7:16 pm
He shrugs. "It's no biggy." It was his job to ease pain and suffering, even if it was something as simple as a sunburn, so he quietly zaps it. Techincally he couldn't heal someone unless they wanted to be healed, but what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. Changeling gets a tingly feeling across her cheeks, if she would have looked at Joey that second she might have noticed the burn-flush that crossed his own cheeks.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 7:37 pm
She turns away just in time to miss the color change, and she doesn't think much of the tingle on her sunburn. She had one before, long before, and her memorys were just fuzzy enough to camoflauge what could only have been a normal sunburn feeling. She continues along, lost in her own deep thoughts, and watches the shadows and alleys closely for any movement.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 7:40 pm
Joey smiles slightly, glad that she didn't catch that. He continues to walk.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 7:46 pm
They are nearing the building and Changeling speeds up unconciously, anxious for the safety of her abandoned office room.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 7:50 pm
He keeps pace easily.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 7:56 pm
Once they reach the building, she pauses as she had last time and looks around before turning down the alley. She opens the door and leads the way up to the office again.
When they at last reach the relative safety of her room she sighs and relaxes. She feels weak again and slumps to the floor before the still open window. Boy, this human body sure needs an awful lot of food.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 7:58 pm
He glances worriedly at the slumped Changeling.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 8:06 pm
She looks up at him and smiles at his expression "Don't worry." she assures him quietly.
Even as she speaks, Tracker appears outside the open door with a plastic grocerry bag. He knocks politely on the door, a sour, somewhat irritated expression on his face "Figured you forgot to eat." is all he says, and tosses the bag in. He vanishes without caring where it lands or if anyone catches it or not.
Changeling is smiling the whole time.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 8:09 pm
He blinks as Tracker throws some groceries in. When he realizes that whatever is inside might be banged up if someone doesn't catch it he moves with surprising speed to scoop up the bag just before it hits the ground. Curiously he peers inside.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 8:16 pm
She blinks vaguely when he moves, and watches him check out dinner. Inside there are two loaves of bread, a soda, a bottle of water and a huge, deli-style sandwitch.
Chaneling yawns tiredly. Maybe she could eat it in the morning... she was awfully tired right now.

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 8:18 pm
He hands the bag to Changeling.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 8:27 pm
She takes a peek inside then shrugs. She wasn't very hungry anymore, only tired. She yawns again and puts the bag aside, then climbs to her feet and wanders over to her corner. As she plops down, she glances at Joey, her black eyes heavy with tiredness. "You can sleep wherever you want... the blanket's still available if you want it..." she doesn't remember that he doesn't need a blanket, but then again, she doesn't remember very much at all right now. She's very sleepy. Her eyelids droop closes, then open again slowly and she smiles at Joey "Goodnight,"

Posted by Joey on 10/23/2001, 8:30 pm
He smiles. "Goodnight." As Changeling curls up in the corner her looks around, absently wondering where Tracker sleeps. With a shrug he takes a seat on the floor, opposite from Changeling. He'd leave the chair open just in case Tracker wanted it. It isn't long before he disappears.

Posted by Changeling on 10/23/2001, 9:37 pm
The moment her eyes close, she drops into a deep sleep. The activity of the day must have tired her out far more than she realized, but a good night sleep would do wonders, Tracker knew. He watches the two fall asleep from the doorway where he still stands, and sighs. After a moment or two, he leaves and heads upstairs, still in that protective sheild of his.
~~~
Changeling stirrs in her sleep, disturbed by the dreams that flicker through her minds eye...
"Come on, dear. Just a little further and we'll be safe at home." her mother's voice, long since forgotten, floats back to a young Changeling from the head of a wagon. Her mother is at the front, driving the team, and she and her younger brother walk behind to make sure none of the precious cargo falls out of it's precarious position in the bed of a small wooden wagon. "Yes mother!" she calls back, hurrying to catch up with her brother, who is running ahead. She can see her home now, a large castle-like building with safe stone walls and high protective turrets. She giggles with joy, seeing her father rush out of the front gate to meet the homecomming party, and is swept up in his arms along with Joseph, her four year old brother.
There's something wrong, she keeps telling herself, something in the way he looked at her mother that day, something... but to a thirteen year old girl, happy to be home and see her father again after such a long journey, nothing mattered but the present. She hugs her father close, then giggles and squirms as he tickles her in the ribs. "How long have you been home, father?" she speaks in Gaelic, it was the only language she knew, having grown up in ireland, and her father smiles "Not long, little one. Come inside, it's cold out here!" he carries the two happy children into the caslte-house...
That dream fades, and another begins, melding into the last like a thousand years in a moment.
An older Eliza stares at her father's grave, next to her mothers. It's just starting to grow grass, and the dark soil stands out against the lush greenery of the surrounding hills. "Why did you leave me, Father? Was I really such a bad girl?" she speaks quietly, quiet tears streaming, unnoticed down her youthful cheeks. "Joseph misses you, he says he wants to go with you and Mother too. I told him he couldn't go yet, but I don't think he believes me." she wipes at her nose and sniffles. She looks down, then away and closes her eyes "I want to go too..." she whispers.
Another dream blends into the mix, and Eliza looks much like she did now, she is about eighteen, but she looked twenty. Already the weight of life is pressing down, it's burden all but crushing her with it's severity. She is seated at a table in the castle-house with a bowl of something set before her. She's not hungry, however, so she stands and leaves the room. As she goes, the memory of the past week hits her like a sledgehammer. her brother... young Jospeh... she daren't think about it now, not now when she felt as if a breath of wind would fling her into insnity...
As slow as the last two dreams game, the third comes surprisingly quick. The memory is etched deep in her mind, it's details sharp where the others were blurred with time. She is standing on the top turret, the brisk wind blowing across the countryside from the ocean she can see as a streak of blue on the horizon. She closes her eyes and breathes deeply. The man had said that if she came up this morning, he'd be waiting for her. But she saw no one on the balcony.
She takes another deep breath and leans far over the ledge. It would be so easy... and she longed for the surrender of death... "Don't lean too far, Lady. You might fall." it was the man she'd met before, sitting on the ledge next to her. How did he get here? She ignores his warning, but soon pulls herself away from the edge, slowly, almost regretfully. "And you sir," she nods her greeting and continues "Why did you ask me here?" her voice is calm, but something about him, her in the sun, looking at her like that... it wasn't right...
The man smiles cooly, and runs his fingers through his flaming red hair "Only to talk, Lady, only to talk." even the way he said it ran chills up and down her spine. "Oh?" she asks, trying not to sound as rattled as she felt. The man nods "Aye Lady."
That vision blured, and suddenly she was flying through the air. But she didn't have wings... She opened her eyes, a serene smile on her face as the ground rushed up to meet her. I'm comming Mother, Father... Joseph... She closes her eyes again and waits for the welcome crash she knew would end her pain.
But none came. Instead, strong arms caught her and set her carefully on the soft earth at the foot of the tower she'd leapt from. Her eyes fly open in anger at whoever had condemed her to one more moment of life, and gasped at the redhaired man from the turret. She doesn't speak, but starts to struggle in his strong grip. "Lady I told you you might fall..." she wants to hit him, tell him what he's done, but he holds her tight, and his eyes suddenly blaze with a green fire. "If you wanted it to end, there are easier, and much les painful ways." something in his eyes hold her, and she stops struggling. She doesn't trust this man, but if he meant to kill her, she'd gratefully welcome it. He laughs, as if reading her mind "Very well, Lady. It's your choice." he smiles his chilling smile again, but this time... his teeth... she wants to scream, fight him, tear herself away, but she can't now. It's too late. A helpless tear rolls down her cheek as his teeth pierce her throat, but then the pain vanishes and she gratefully floats away on a soft darkness that swallows her up.
The darkness of her dream gives way to light as the frist rays of dawn wash over her. She gasps at a pain in her eyes and body, and dashes for a shadow...
But it isn't a shadow, it's a grave. She falls in with a shreik and lands on her hands and knees. There are people around her as she trys to scramble to her feet, they're pulling her down with them... She cries out again and again, but her calls are answered only by angry shouts and hysterical laughter.
"No! Nooooooo!" she struggles, but the hands of her victims only pull her down farther... a face appears above her and she reaches out and calls to it, but the redhaired man only smiles, and slowly fades away onto darkness...
Changeling wakes with a start. Tears are streaming down her face and wetting her cloak.
The first rays of dawn are streaming in through the open window...
He sleeps through the night. If any dreams disturb his rest they aren't bad enough to snap him back into reality. Even as dawn approaches he remains well asleep. Joey definetly isn't an early riser. Distantly he felt that he should be getting up, that he was needed, but he soon falls back into oblivion.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:08 pm
Changeling looks around the room, almost like she expects to find some aspect of her dream still lurking. Her eyes are wide with fear, and she desperetely wishes that Joey were awake, so she could at least see him.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:11 pm
Some hint of that wish reaches his sporadic telepathy and Joey snaps back into reality looking extremely confused. To him it feels like he's just fallen out of bed. It's obvious that he's wondering where he is.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:17 pm
She blinks as he reappears so suddenly and watches him with apprehension. She almost feels as if she'd never left the dream... It was so real...
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:20 pm
The confusion on his face doesn't clear, even as he spends a few seconds blinking at his surroundings. One might wonder if his mind was left where-ever the rest of his body went when he disappeared. His expression is even more blank then usual.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:25 pm
She just stares at him, trying with all her might to wall up the memories of her dream. She didn't need to be reminded of her past, especially not that part. Some little snatches escape however, and her hand darts invountarily to her throat when she gets a flash of the redhaired vampire.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:27 pm
Enough of that memory seeps through his telepathy that he wakes up properly. He blinks again, wondering where that came from.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:30 pm
Her mental barriers against remembrance are crumbling, and more and more dream seep through to her awareness. She starts to cry again, silent tears streaming down her face. She wants to move, do anything, but she's still frozen with fear and uncertainty.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:34 pm
He blinks repeatedly as he's pelted with little flashes from Changeling's past. He still hasn't figured out where it's coming from, and despite the fact that his mind has caught up to him, he's still not fully awake.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:42 pm
She finally overcomes her paralysis as the steady stream of memories seeping through becomes a flood, and with a strangles cry surghes foreward. She stumbles over to Joey, and clings to his coat like it was her only hope.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:45 pm
A look of complete and utter shock crosses Joey's face and stays there, but he doesn't move. What a strange way to wake up!
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 6:49 pm
She weeps into his lap, overwhelmed by the flood of dream and memory.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 6:53 pm
He remains sitting, rather stiffly, not quite sure what to do. Being used as a living teddy bear while being bombarded with chunks of a very unpleasent past wasn't the best way to wake up in the morning, as his other half pointed out.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:01 pm
After a long while her sobs quiet and her uncontrollable shivering subsides. She just sits there, breathing heavily, eyes tightly closed. A moment passes, and she seems to come back to herself, remembering exactly what she's doing, and moves away, self-conciously wiping at her eyes and sniffing. She keeps her eyes down and away, somewhat embarassed.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:04 pm
He watches her worriedly, not knowing what to do.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:08 pm
She takes a deep breath to steady herself, but still keeps her face averted.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:12 pm
He continues to eye her worriedly. "Are you okay?" He asked hesitently.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:17 pm
Her face contorts into what she hopes is a smile, but probably looks more like a grimace "Mentally or physically?" she laughs, but it sounds more like a sob "Not like either one is espesially different from the other right now." she says quietly, her voice harsh.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:20 pm
He winces out of sympathy, or maybe out of empathy. "Either..."
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:24 pm
She considers a moment before answering "Mentally, I've just been dragged through my most painful memories, and the guilt accumulated over hundreds of years of being a predator..." she looks at him with agony tinting her dark eyes, then turns towards the patch of light thrown across the wall opposite the window "As for the other... I don't think you'll have to worry about me anymore if I'm not alright."
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:27 pm
He winces again, just getting bits and pieces of those memories where bad enough, and they weren't even his. He follows her gaze to the patch of sunlight, then turns his attention back to her, his expression more worried then ever.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:30 pm
She stands slowly, keeping her eyes on the window. The rising sun should be just peeking over the horizon about now...
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:32 pm
He stands slowly, eyeing Changeling worriedly.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:36 pm
She takes an unsteady step towards the lighted window, her thoughts coalescing into one motive. End it... But her suicidal motive is only part, there's a hint of hope in her for life.
Either way, life or death, at least the nightmare would be over.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:38 pm
He continues to watch Changeling, the worried expression on his features deepening. Something was strange here, had something gone seriously wrong? Changeling acted like she was going to go up in smoke...
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:48 pm
She takes another hesitent step foreward, feeling the extra length and sharpness of her teeth again. Something had gone seriously wrong, Changeling's own concience and guilt is keeping her from being completely healed... But all she knows is the dream... the hundreds, thousands of her victims, pulling her down with them... she blinks away a tear and takes a final step toward the window. She was inches from the light of the rising sun, the light that would either kill her, or confirm her worthy of life.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 7:51 pm
He continues to watch, trying to decide if he should stop her. Finally he relaxes, if something was wrong it was better to find out now.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 7:59 pm
She pauses, taking a deep breath, then takes the final step foreward into the light...
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 8:02 pm
He watches silently.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 8:09 pm
She gasps when the sunlight hits her, expecting the searing heat the usually accompanied such a venture, but then opens her eyes wode in amazement and looks down at her hands, bathed in the dim but warm light of sunrise. The earlymorning sun was a little warmer than it would've been had she been human, but it wasn't deadly.
She turns to Joey, a kind of disappointed joy shining in her eyes.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 8:11 pm
He releases the breath that he hadn't even realized he'd been holding and grins. The grin slowly fades as Changeling's expression registers.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 8:20 pm
She looks down at her hands again, shoving the feeling that she didn't deserve to live on in the sun aside. It was a good thing. It was... But she didn't know. Even if she could stand sunlight, it didn't mean that she didn't need to hunt again. The mere fact that her fangs had returned meant that they could still be needed.
She sighs and accepts the fact that whatever hapened later was a tomorrow she couldn't change. When she looks again at Joey, her face is carefully blank, the only emotion to see shining in her eyes. They are bright with a wondering joy, not quite as intese as it was yesterday, but there all the same.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 8:24 pm
He studies her, his expression as blank as Joey's face can get. The web of scars that cover his face somehow make the expression more serious then Joey meant it to be..
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 8:28 pm
Her eyes dim slightly at his seriousness, and she turns away to look again out the window at the beautiful sunrise over the ocean.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 8:32 pm
Realizing that his expression caused her change in expression the seriousness clears. He turns to study the ocean, stepping into the light he smiles faintly.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 8:35 pm
She glances at his face again, and a faint smile crosses her face. She moves like she's going to lay her head on his shoulder again, as she had yesterday morning, but catches herself and looks faintly sad.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 8:41 pm
He doesn't notice, he just turns his face up to the light and shuts his eyes still smiling.
Posted by Changeling on 10/25/2001, 8:53 pm
She looks up at him, her own smile broadening at the look on his face. But it's a lonely smile. She turns back to the pink and orange blush of the sunrise and closes her eyes, breathing in the sweet fragrance of morning.
Posted by Joey on 10/25/2001, 10:50 pm
He continues soaking up the sunlight.
Posted by Changeling on 10/26/2001, 3:50 pm
After a while, she notices that the sun is getting a little warmer, and she's starting to get another sunburn. With a sigh she opens her eyes, all but blinded for a moment by the light that shouldn't have been that bright to a 'normal' human, and turns her back to the window silently. She looks at Joey, so serenely basking in the sun, and remembers the morning before, when she had done that very thing herself.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 1:28 pm
He continues to soak up the sunlight..
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 3:51 pm
She smiles her lonely smile again and gazes at the patch of light on the wall opposite the window, their silhouettes framed in warm sunlight.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 5:33 pm
It's a bit strange, Joey doesn't cast much of a shadow. It wouldn't be noticeable on the street, but when he's standing completely still in a patch of sun, it is.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 5:46 pm
She doesn't particularly notice the problem with his shadow right away, however, because she doesn't cast much of one either. When she does notice, it's only because she catches herself comparing his to hers to see whose was darker. She turns back to look up at him "Joey, why is your shadow like that?"
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 5:54 pm
He's startled slightly. "Huh, wha?" He blinks down at his own shadow. "Oh, I don't really know...Somebody tried to explain it, but I missed most of it..." He grins somewhat sheepishly.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 5:59 pm
She smiles and nods, looking back at the two shadows, thinking. She notes somewhat distractedly that the back of her neck was burning, but she doesn't worry about it, figuring that since she was back to vampire she'd heal almost instantly. She doesn't however, and the burning gets worse. With another sigh, she turns back to the sunrise, then reluctantly steps out of the light.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:04 pm
Now that he's been startled from his sun basking, he's a little more aware of what is happening. He looks at Changeling when she stepped out of the sunlight.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 6:09 pm
She takes a seat just outside the window and looks up at Joey, noticing him watching her. She doesn't comment on her move, but continues with the shadow conversation "Maybe it's because you glow? Almost counteracting the sunlight in a way?" she cocks her head, hoping the darkness she sits in contrasts to the light enough that he won't see the redness of her sunburn. Why wasn't it healing?
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:14 pm
He ponders that for a second, staring off into space. "Yeah, I think it was something like that..." His sharp sight notices the growing sun burn. He tilts his head. ~ I thought I fixed that..~
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 6:17 pm
She can feel the burning on her face and the back of her neck, and resists the impulse to touch them with her cool fingers. Instead she nods and ponders to herself why her shadow is so translucent.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:21 pm
He looks back out the window while he tries to quickly fix Changeling's sunburn. The burn fades quickly and Joey flushes for a moment before returning to his normal semi-pale coloring.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 6:28 pm
Thankfully, Changeling notices her burn fade, and attributes it to her faster healing. She doesn't realize that it was Joey, or she would've said something. She stands and considers entering the light again, but the grocerie bag on the floor catches her attention. She's hungry, but it's real hunger... not the vampiric need she had been used to. With a delighted smile, she steps over to the bag and takes out the soda and sandwitch. With one item in each hand, she returns to the window and takes up a position just below the light, with her back to the wall.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:32 pm
He smiles slightly to himself, glad that something was working like it was supposed to. He leans against the wall, staring out into the city and enjoying the sunlight.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 6:41 pm
She munches on her sandwitch and sips at the soda, delighting in the flavour of both and the carbonation in the soda, experiencing both for the first time.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:43 pm
He smiles absently at her delight at the food and continues staring out into the city.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 6:50 pm
When she's finished, she licks her teeth reflexively as she always used to do after feeding, and notices that the sharpness and length has diminshed, so that now her canines are no longer than a normal humans. She wonders at that, but accepts it with joy. After a moment, she stands, expecting the flash of brightness that had met her at sunrise when she looked out the window, but found it normal. Strange. Something in the back of her mind noted the sun's position, completely above the horizon, and mentally filed it away for later contemplation.
She smiles at Joey, relieved that she was no longer sunburned, or likely to become burned from the morning sun anymore today.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 6:54 pm
"So what are you gona do today?" He asks, smiling back.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:01 pm
She sighs "Gee, I still don't know..." another smile "Maybe we can go flying again..." then she pauses, wondering, her mind wandering off on a tangent "I wonder if Memory is still around."
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:04 pm
He grins at the first comment, then tilts his head at her last remark. "Memory?" He pauses, trying to remember something.
Posted by Changling on 10/29/2001, 7:07 pm
She nods distractedly "She's... well..." she isn't sure exactly how to describe her, so she just says "She's a vampire hunter of sorts. I suppose." and shrugs.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:10 pm
"Well, you're not a vampire anymore.." He says distractedly, still trying to remember something.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:14 pm
She shrugs but nods, still unsure herself. She notices his expression and wonders "What is it?"
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:16 pm
He frowns at his inability to remember the detail he's looking for. "I was just trying to remember something.." He shrugs,"It'll come to me later, I guess."
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:19 pm
She smiles "Alright," and turns back to gaze out over the cityscape again, thinking of things to do today.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:21 pm
He stands quietly by the window, having gone back to soaking up sunlight.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:26 pm
Her gaze drifts over to his face, and her thoughts turn to wondering why he loves the sun so much. But then again, it's probably an angel thing. Besides, she acted much the same the day before, and was even now overjoyed to feel the sun on her skin. But she'd been kept away from the light for hundreds of years...
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:29 pm
He continues to soak up the sunlight, a half smile on his face. For the amount of time he spent in the sun, it was amazing that he didn't get a tan.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:32 pm
She could almost laugh, wondering what she looks like now, then realizes that it had been a very long while since she'd looked in a mirror.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:36 pm
A hint of that emotion reaches his telepathy and he glances at her.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:41 pm
She only smiles "You wounldn't happen to have a mirror, by any chance... would you?"
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 7:46 pm
"Mirror?" He thinks for a moment, then goes through the pockets of his trench coat. After pulling out a dozen bent up forks he shrugs sheepishly. "Nope, no mirror.. Sorry." He puts all the forks back in his pockets.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 7:59 pm
She's extremely curious about the forks and is about to ask when she decides that it'd be rude and stifles her rising curiousity.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 8:08 pm
He eyes the last fork for a moment before placing it in his pocket. Strangely enough his pocket is the same shape now as it was before he put all the forks back in. He looks up, grinning at her expression. "They're all from the diner..." He says, reading the question on her face.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 8:17 pm
She blinks, even more confused now than she was before, and shakes her head. She'll never understand angels. After a few seconds, she resumes her previous quest for a mirror "Maybe Tracker has one..." she considers throughtfully.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 8:30 pm
He grins again, "No really they make great..." He trails off as he thinks, then starts up again. "Swords!" He dances around, weilding a fork like a sword. "Engaurd!"
Then he gets another idea. "And, they make great throwing weapons..." He flips the fork around like he's catching the handel of a danger then whips his arm with surprising speed, embedding the fork in the wall.
He grins sheepishly. "Um, whoops. Sorry, I'm wrecking your warehouse.." The silver haired teen retrieves the fork from the wall. He recovers from his bout of silliness. "Maybe.." He says in responce to her comment.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 8:34 pm
That finally gets a laugh out of her, and she giggles at his antics. She only laughs harder at the fork in the wall, and sits down giggling. For a moment she completely forgets about her quest for the mirror, just laughing at the sillyness.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 8:37 pm
He grins, it's been awhile since he'd been the class clown.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 8:40 pm
She recovers somewhat from her laughing attack and wipes at her eyes. It had been a while since she'd laughed so hard... or had a reason to, for that matter.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 8:43 pm
The silver haired teen salutes her with the fork, then flips the utensil into his pocket like a cowboy flipping his gun into the holster after a shootout.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 8:48 pm
She giggles again and then sighs, shaking her head and rolling her eyes.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 8:54 pm
He grins again at her reaction. He felt more like himself now then he had in a long time.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 8:58 pm
She smiles back, wondering if this was what it's like to be young at heart. She'd never truly been young, ever since her mother died... but she put all of that out of her mind now. She was truly happy here, for the first time in a long time.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 9:01 pm
He takes a little bow, still grinning.
Posted by Changeling on 10/29/2001, 9:04 pm
She chuckles and shakes her head again, watching him. Then she mumbles something to herself in gaelic and smiles up at him.
Posted by Joey on 10/29/2001, 9:08 pm
He lifts both eyebrows in an expression of almost sheepish confusion.
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 3:31 pm
She grins at him, having completely forgotten her mirror search.
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 4:46 pm
He tilts his head. "What was that? I know a few languages, but Gaelic isn't one of them.. That was Gaelic, right?"
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 5:02 pm
She smiles looking startled "Yes, it was..." after a pause and a little surprised grin "It was a saying my father always used when someone lightened the mood."
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 5:07 pm
"Oh." He blinks again, then shrugs cheerfully.
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 5:17 pm
She smiles, suddenly curious "What languages do you know?"
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 5:19 pm
"English and a few others..." He says vaguely.
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 5:24 pm
"Oh a few, huh?" she's not letting him off that easy.
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 5:27 pm
He nods, not catching her tone. "Yup. I don't think it's anything that would normally be spoken around here...." It's hard to know just what he means by around here from the accompaning sweep of his arm. He could have just meant around New York, or he could have meant the entire country, or something else....
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 5:36 pm
She cocks her head curiously "Oh? Like what?" she could be direct if that's what it took to get any satisfying answers.
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 5:41 pm
He blinks at this. "Um, well...." He trails off, wondering how to put this. "Demonic for one..." He says quite quietly, then he shudders, remembering the last time he had run into that paticular language.
Posted by Changelng on 10/30/2001, 5:49 pm
One eyebrow shoots up and her eyes widen ever-so-slightly. She'd heard of it, but never actually heard it. She was a little curious to know what it sounded like, but it was plain that he didn't particularly want to speak it at the moment. So she only shakes her head to dismiss that one waits patiently to hear other languages.
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 5:55 pm
"And a few others..." He says again.
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 6:16 pm
She sighs exasperatedly and shakes her head. Getting anything out of this guy was like fishing in Loch Ness!
Posted by Joey on 10/30/2001, 6:18 pm
He grins again, somewhat sheepishly. It wasn't the fact that he didn't want to tell her, it was more the fact that he wasn't supposed to.
Posted by Changeling on 10/30/2001, 6:36 pm
She shrugs, letting it go far more easily than she would have had she not been in so good a mood. She stretches and looks out the window at the steadily rising sun. She's suddenly curious again, and turns back to Joey "What do you usually do all day anyway? When you're not escorting a newly turned human around town, that is..." she smiles.
"Wander around town, help people..." He shrugs cheerfully. "Whatever I can do that passes the time.."
She smiles and nods, then returnes her gaze to the window. After a moment she speaks quietly, in a subdued voice "What's it like... helping people, I mean..." she doesn't look at him, but keeps her eyes locked on the eastern horizon and the glint of ocean.
"Well, occasionally it's painful cause I sometimes end up..." He cuts that sentance off suddenly, that isn't what he meant to say. He shrugs in an effort to cover it up, "It's what I do, it's nice I guess. I like being helpful."
She blinks, shaken out of her reverie "Sometimes you end up..." she could've finished the sentance, but she decided to hear what he meant to say first. She tears her eyes from the sunrise and looks up at him.
"Um, nothing..." He's staring at the wall like it holds something very interesting.
She makes a face and looks away silently, remembering all too vividly what happened at their first meeting, then when he healed her.
He frowns, guessing what she's thinking. "That isn't what I meant..."
She shrugs, then looks at him "What did you mean then." Her eyes are clouded with something close to the self condemnation that had shown in them when she was still a vampire.
"Well..." He says. "Roadkill is a pretty good description..." He winces sheepishly. "I seem to have a target painted on me or something...I don't know how many times I've been run over... It's no wonder..." The last sentance is said almost to himself, he doesn't finish it.
