This is my Animated Experiments gallery. Some of the work below was made to gain new skills and explore Ideas, but most of it was made just for the heck of it. Most of these animations are fairly pointless, but they are interesting. Most of the animations are AVI files resized to a small resolution of 320 by 240 and compressed with MPEG4 codec, some are 640 by 480. They should play fine with Windows Media Player, the DivX Player or RealOne Player. Each of the animations has a description to the right and some have extra images to the far right.You can just click to open or right-click and Save Target As. So if you are like me and you find pointless yet interesting 3D Animation amusing then continue on below.

Holo Device First Animated Test Animation

My first 3D animation and the only one here not created using LightWave. I made it back in 2001 when I was 14 using Corel Draw 6 Dream 3D. It was an old program even then. I used a Gateway computer with a Pentium 2 processor. With no key framing it took about month to animate.

Old Ship in World Test Animation

My first full animation test done in LightWave 3D back in 2003. My main goal was to create the feel of infinite distance with the landscape. I modeled the ship while following part of a neat tutorial by Larry Shultz. About three days to render.

HyperVoxels Goo Test Animation

A pouring gel animation that I’ve been told looks like Nickelodeon goo or Flubber. I was just experimenting with the different particle effects. About eight hours to render.

Fake S.S.S. Glow Test Animation

I made this animation and the object in it to test a fake glow and sub surface scattering effect I was working on. The scene uses no lights and every frame took less then a second to render.

Wind & Grass Test Animation

I experimented with two things in this animation. I wanted to see if I could get real cloth dynamics and have a field that faded into the distance with Saslite grass.

Weird Thing Animation with Sound

I made this weird organic yet metallic looking thing while messing around making abstract sub-patch objects. I imagine I’ll use it for some kind of alien machinery some day.

Alien Animation Test Animation with Sound: 640 by 480

This animation was made just to see how long it would take to model, create morphs, texture, rig bones and IK, animate, apply sound and render a walking talking character. It took five days to complete, but from the experience I gained I think I could now make it in half the time.

LightWave 8 Cloth Dynamics Test Animation: 640 by 480

I made this test animation to test out the changes to the cloth dynamics in LightWave 8. It was much more stable then I first thought.

Soft Body Dynamics Test Animation: 640 by 480

It turns out that you don’t get a lot of results from a sphere with soft body dynamics, so I smooth shifted some polygons and made it into a small alien. I suppose it is a Dumbolien. :)

Here is a test that shows the fake S.S.S. technique I have been working on combined with the inside S.S.S. technique developed by Adam Sanders on a complex object with a complex surface in an environment.
