                Baguio City is situated admist the mountainous region of Cordillera, 1,500 meters above the sea and 250 kilometers north of Manila. Baguio City, the "summer capital" of the country, is one of the places in the Philippines blessed with a cool climate that attracts Manila's wealth when the lowlands are sweltering. It is gifted with a variety of cultural, historical and scenic attraction which make it an important and interesting destination.


                The City registered a total population of 252,386 persons inthe year 2000 up from 226,883 in 1995, giving the city an average annual growth rate of 2.31 percent, a decrease of 1.70 percentage points from the year 1990 to 1995.The languages spoken in Baguio are Kankana-ey, Ibaloi, English, Ilocano, Tagalog, Chinese.



The region around Baguio was first setteled by the Cordilleranos, primarily the Kankanaey, Ibaloi, and Itogon tribes. But nowadays, many peple from different places want to stay here in Baguio City because of the climate. One example of this was Ilocanos. Another reason why other people from other places want to stay here in Baguio City is that education here is good. Baguio City is known as a university town. It is the center of education in the entire North Luzon There are eight major institutions on higher education in Baguio Ctiy.


Like most of the Philippine cities, Baguio is governed by a Mayor, Vice Mayor, and twelve Councilors.
