BioBrad, a versatile pitcher who has a 90 mile-per-hour fastball, curveball and changeup, is part of the Marlins' young and promising rotation. Brad (6-foot-4, 247) has compiled winning records in two of the past three seasons with the Marlins, recording a 10-10 record in the other. After making the jump from Double-A to the majors in 2000, he went 8-7 with a 4.81 ERA, striking out 80 and walking 60 in 23 outings. His eight victories ranked second among National League rookie starters. Brad, a native of Broken Arrow, Okla., fared even better the next season with 154 strikeouts and only 54 walks, while compiling a 10-10 record and career-low 3.69 ERA. In 2002, Brad went 8-7 with one complete game, one shutout, 93 strikeouts and 50 walks, with a 4.66 ERA. He started the year red-hot, winning seven of his first eight decisions. He had the lowest ERA among the Marlins' starters and established a team record with 13 strikeouts in a June game against the Montreal Expos. For his career, Brad is 26-24 with two complete games, two shutouts, 327 strikeouts, 164 walks and 4.26 ERA. Originally in the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization, Brad in 1999 was traded to Florida in the deal that sent reliever Matt Mantei out west. |
