The creation of the Forza Motorsport 2 Artist Guild was conceived by dedmonwakin and initiated by cooperbh. On 9/4/2007, cooperbh got the ball rolling on the formation of The Artist Guild (TAG) with the following post to the Forza Motorsport forum:

“Guess I'll start.

First off, I don't view an artists' guild as any sort of "political" movement. Its purpose is not to take a stand on any game or community issues. Like the name suggests, it is simply a group of artists who have decided to come together to help each other with the conception, production and distribution of their work, as well as a place for them to socialize with other like-minded people. Guild activities would always be completely voluntary and would not be a requirement for membership. In fact, the only membership requirement would be the stated desire to become a member.

The guild would not have nor require any sort of governing body and any "rules" or guidelines would be implicit. In other words, if you come into a guild thread complaining about how your design was just duped, you're likely to hear something along the lines of "Shhh. We're trying to paint here." The first rule of the artists' guild is: Don't talk about... the auction house (not really, but you get my point.)

For the organizational structure, I see one main thread where members and the general community can find links to guild activities, as well as discuss and/or suggest current and future activities along with any other guild-related issues. From there it's simply a matter of following the desired link.

Below are some of my ideas on how the guild might further its stated goals. From this point on I will refer to the artists' guild simply as TAG, which I think is a pretty damn appropriate acronym for it, as it turns out.

1. Have concept-driven mini-projects that can be taken on by artists in the community. The intent here - to provide an informational resource to artists who are undertaking particularly challenging subject matter. For example: water, hair/fur, glass, or - my personal favorite - fire. These projects would be open-ended and all that is required for a member to start one is to simply create a thread with the subject in the topic, i.e: "TAG Project: Water."

2. Host our own "Design of the Week" contest. The ten best designs would be nominated via secret ballot by the community. From there, TAG members would vote on the best overall design. The secret balloting would be handled by a member of the community (preferably someone who is not a regular in the Livery forums) who would donate his inbox as the "ballot box" while being compensated for the inconvenience with credits or art - whichever he chooses. This contest would sort of be the Livery forum's version of the Screen Actors Guild Awards - a contest decided on by our peers and other active members of this community who - let's face it - are a little more in touch with what is currently being produced around here than Turn 10 is. This will help some of the more overlooked artists to receive some well-deserved recognition.

3. User-created font catalogue. 'Nuff said.

That's all I got for right now, but I'll add new ideas as they come to me or are suggested.
So... I guess this is where you guys come in...”

Quick Tips

by Neubourn

To quickly resize a layer, simply hold down the left thumbstick and press A, so only that layer is highlighted, then let go and press A and select "resize".
Also works with layers you group together very good to use for resizing groups as long as proportions are correct. Resizing in this way locks x and y together.

How do I copy the left/right side?

When you have completed one side of the vehicle, go to the opposite side and press A.  The second button from the bottom is “Insert all from Left/Right”

How do I copy a design from one car to another?

To copy a design from your vehicle to another of the same make and model go to the “Save Design” option in the “Paint Car” menu.  The second option is “Save to Design Catalog.”  To apply your design, go to the “Design Catalog” option in the “Paint Car” menu and you can see any designs saved to the catalog and select the appropriate design.

How do I get a picture on more than one car/on another side of the vehicle?

To apply a picture from one car to another (or one side of a design), click and hold down the left stick of the controller and press A to highlight the desired layers.  Once this is done select the highlighted layers by pressing A, and the third option from the top is “Create New Vinyl Group”. Select this and you can name and save your image.  Now, go to the desired side of the vehicle (or go get your other car and return to the Livery Editor) and press A.  The third option from the top is “Load a Vinyl Group” where you should see any groups you have saved.

How do you paint rims?

In order to paint rims, you must have purchased custom rims. Once this is done you will see a "Paint Rims" option in the paint menu.
