OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational Therapy is the therapeutic use of self-care, work and play activities ot increase independent function and to enhance development; and may include adaptation of tasks or the environment to enhance the quality of life.

SERVICES

The Center Occupational Therapy Staff will complete a thorough evaluation of fine motor, sensorimotor and self-help skills and this may be followed by providing individual and group therapy sessions, both at the Center and at the School-Based sites.

PROCESS

1.  A telephone call will be made to the Center to request an Occuaptional Therapy Evaluation and/or services.

2.  An appointment with either the Executive director or Assistant Director will be made by the parent ot complete and Intake Form.

3.  An Evaluation will be scheduled at the Center and completed by a State Licensed/School certified OTR/L.

4.  Recommendations will be made in a detailed and typed report within 30 days, which will include goals and objectives.

5.  Serivced may begin either at the Center or at the School-Based site once the district has approved those services and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) has been proposed and agreed upon by the district and parents.

6.  On-going communication will occur with Child Study Team members, teachers and parent(s) discuss the progress of the child.  Such communciaton may include telephone calls, meetings, and will include interim reports and an annual review through the IEP process.

FACILITIES

The Children's Therapy Center has a specialized sensory integration room with suspended equipment as well as small individual treatment rooms.  Both Mac and PC equipment and softare technology are available for treating children on-site.
