Our Move to Texas
September 20, 2002  ~
We are now living in TEXAS!  YEE-HAW!  It is so exciting  to be close
to our families and friends again.   Scott started Physician Assistant
School on August 26th and I have been working at my new dream job…
Stay at Home Mom!

Luke is doing better than wonderful.  He has gained almost 5 pounds and grown 1.5 inches and 6 teeth since being home.  He picked up sign language very fast and has slowly started repeating words we say.  It seems like in the last two weeks he has learned tons of new words.  He copies every hand motion, word, and body movement that we do.  I continue to be amazed and in awe of how smart and funny he is.

I think his first "Helen Keller" moment of understanding came when we were teaching him where his "eye" is.  If you are now within his arms reach you have to watch out for his little pointer finger because it will go straight into your eye as he says "eye".  Scott had a cut on his eyelid because of Luke's quick little arm…. right into daddy eye!  Even Abbey has fallen victim to this fascination.

Luke says "Mama" regularly, but we are having a little trouble with "Dada".  Scott and I have both sat in front of him and said "Say Dada" and he will look you point blank in the face wearing a silly little grin and say "Mama".  Of course I think it is hilarious, but Scott isn't charmed as easily.  We have found that Luke really only says "Dada" when Scott isn't in the room.  I believe this is Luke's payback for all the tickling Daddy inflicts.
His new (and annoying) habit is to say "Bye!" to everyone he sees.  This can be VERY irritating when you are walking against a crowd of people.  I am constantly laughing to myself as I walk through the mall with him in the stroller… his little arm and hand over his head continually in the "wave position" saying "Bye!" to EVERYONE.
Luke adores Abbey! (or as Luke calls her "Awe-Ba")  He is always trying to cuddle up to her and kiss her on the head.  I don't think Abbey is quite ready to tolerate him.  The only time she finds him interesting is when Luke is eating, although, I have caught Abbey sleeping under his crib at night.  When they are both in the mood, they do play well together running around the house chasing each other and making all kinds of racket.
Since coming back from Ukraine, we have
had a whirlwind of a time.  We only had two
and a half weeks to introduce Luke to everyone
we loved in Maryland and Virginia, turn around and say goodbye to all of those people and then pack up our house and drive to Texas.  On the way to San Antonio, we made a two week stop-over in Dallas to visit family and friends and of course let them all fall in love with our new love.
