It began as somewhat of a dream, something that I thought about as I laid awake at nights before sleep came. Then, as I saw more and more of the Gundam Wing series it became a stronger goal, something I pictured passionately. It became an obsession of sorts, and thus before I even saw the end of the series, I began work on my own fanfiction entitled, "War's Requiem".
I started my story in May of 2000, as school wound down to a close, and I found myself with more free time than I knew what to do with. It started with a very simple storyline and a very simple purpose- to give Wing fans more adventures of the five young pilots who fly these incredible machines.
However, as always happens when I do something, I began to get new ideas for what could happen in the story, twisting the plot this way and that. I asked friends, family, and on-line buddies what sounded good and what wouldn't work, until I finally came up with the final draft of how the story was going to work out.
Near the middle of Part Three the entire plot became so confusing I had to construct a story board in my room on cardboard, with little Post-It notes stuck all over it. I couldn't even remember who was doing what and where they were, so the board helped me my thoughts and get me out of the thick of the story.
I'll tell you right now that I never meant for this to get so long, but in order to put in everything I wanted to do it was necessary. I finished the fic in October of 2000, roughly six months after beginning it. As exhausted and sick of writing as I was, I was eager to try and expand on what I had created, bursting with new ideas for a sequel.
One aspect of my story that surprised me was the addition of two original characters, Peter Linden and Rory Holiday. I stuck the two in as simply roommates to Duo while he is undercover and fell in love with their characters and the way they reacted with things around them. So they got bumped up to main character status in the sequel, playing a larger part in a just as complex situation.
I hope you enjoy reading my fanfiction. I tried to stay true to everything that I could take from the series and Endless Waltz (War's Requiem takes place right after the OAV's), but there will be some gaps in places that I missed.
