Top 10 Tips for Neopets Newbies! By: neoitems.net So you have created your pet and are not sure what to do next? These tips will help you get started! 1) Make sure the first thing you do is pickup the Newbie Pack from your 'Inventory'. This should contain 5 different items :) 2) As a pet owner you will need NeoPoints (money) to buy your pet food, toys, weapons etc. One of the best ways to make money is by having your own shop. Create your own shop by going here and following the instructions. It will cost you a few NP (NeoPoints) and give you room for 5 items. To upgrade your shop click on the 'Create/Edit a Shop' link and click the button at the bottom. Every upgrade costs more money than the last time and always gives you room for 5 more items. 3) To make some money the first thing to do is sell your Newbie Pack items. Go back to your 'Inventory' and then click on the 'Quick Stock' link. Click on the radio button for each item in the 'Stock' column and then click the 'Submit' button. All your items will now be in your 'Shop Stock' list. Click on the 'Shop Stock' link as it is now time to put a price on each item :) You do not want to make your prices too high because no one will buy your items. Read on..... 4) Many times throughout the game you will need to know the current value of some items. We recommend that you open up a new browser window and then visit the 'Shop Wizard'. Type the name of the item you are interested in in the 'What are you looking for?' edit box and then choose 'identical to my phrase' from the drop-down box. Click on the 'Search Shops' button and you will see a list of shops offering that item and how many NP they are asking. Make a note of the cheapest price and then click the back button on your browser. Repeat this several times. Now you should have a pretty good idea what your item is worth and you can put this value in your 'Shop Stock' list. 5) Once every item in your 'Shop Stock' list has a price then click the 'Update Prices' button. Click on the 'Shop Front' link to see how your shop will look to others :) The 'Shop Till' link will let you see how much money you have made and also withdraw it. All accounts earn interest but you have to make sure you visit the bank once a day to claim it! 9) Another really good way to make money is to buy the newly released items from the 'Main Shops' and then sell them in your shop. What You Always Wanted to Know… Starting From Scratch MARKETPLACE - Your Neopets will probably get cranky if you don’t have enough food, toys, etc. for all of them, and I’ve got 4 to handle myself. Anyway, if you don’t have a lot of NP, are new to Neopets, or just want to see if you can find any more ways to make NP, then this article is for you. If you’re a little more advanced, please forgive me and follow along if you wish. You could learn something useful too. Before I start the meat-and-potatoes of this article, I would like to warn you, if you really are new: Don’t give your password to anyone! Not even someone you think you can trust. The same goes for "lending" items. Keep your eyes open for scams, as they can ruin months of effort on your account. And your Neopets will wonder who that strange fellow clearing them out is. Also, odds are you won’t get anything from the Money Tree. Don’t let that get to you. And if you can actually get items in restocks, well then more power to you. On with the show. I. First Things First Okay, so you’re started up on NeoPets. If you’re really new, you might want to check out the tutorial at the top of the help page. You have 200 NP to start with unless Neopets changed the amount, and you’ll get 50 NP for creating your first pet. You can open a bank account free, and open a small shop for a fee. If you don’t have the NP for that right now, you can come back to it later. The Bank will provide interest on the NP you put into it, it helps out a little, but there are better uses for your NP. The Bank also gives you access to a Safety Deposit Box for those valuable items. Don’t forget to collect your interest daily on what you’ve put into the bank (which should be everything not invested in items or stocks) -- once you have enough to start collecting interest, that is. Your shop will be useful in selling items you find, buy, or win. For more information on shops, I will refer you to leb388’s articles. Got Stuff? Sell It! and Got Stuff? Sell it! Part II II. Freebies Now, get your freebies. I’m talking about the one-time-only Newbie Pack, and the free dailies like Coltzan’s Shrine, The Fruit Machine, or my favorite, The Tombola! The three freebies I linked are my favorites. Once you get your Newbie Pack, you will find a toy (a fuzzle of some sort if memory serves me) and a food item for your neopet, as well as some other nifty, but common, items. The long-delayed Coltzan’s Shrine can up your pet’s stats for free, or give food, NP (legend has it someone gets a million from time to time), or the usual nothing at all when you pay your respects to the late King Coltzan. The Fruit Machine can give out food items, petpets, and NP(from 50 to 10,000), if one’s slot-machine like pictures of Desert fruits line up. And the Tombola prize depends on your ticket, if it ends in a 0, 2, or 5, you can win a non-booby prize. I like the booby prizes myself, as well as the occasional codestone, but not the icky food that is given out. And even if you don't have a winning ticket, sometimes the Tiki Tack Man will take pity on you and give you a little NP. Afterward, if you’ve gone around and taken advantage of these daily (except for the Newbie Pack) freebies, and others which I think it would be more fun for you to explore and find for yourself, you may have gotten a little bit of NP. Oh, and I almost forgot, silly me — for free food, nothing beats the Giant Omelette! Once a day freebie as well. Three servings of various kinds of Omelette can go a long way toward keeping your Neopet(s) fed. Make sure you take care of your daily freebies! III. Games To begin, you should try to play some games in the Action or puzzle categories first, depending on your preference. Some may be to your liking. Meerca Chase, for example, is a simple, quick, and yet rewarding game. I wouldn’t suggest the games of chance such as The Wheel of Excitement or Turdle Racing (Go, Nutty! Go!) until you are sure that you are pulling in more than enough NP for it. There are many good games out there where NP can be made, so look around. Some games of chance give out items as well. Dice-A-Roo often gave me plenty of food early on, and I’d suggest it to anyone as it only costs 5 NP to play. Games are going to make up the bulk of your NP earnings early on. Eventually, with a little hard work, perseverance, and luck, playing games will be more for fun than to actually get NP. As long as I don’t go nuts on Battledome equipment, I am usually gaining NP, so, yeah, remember to not overspend. Prices can vary, and I know that rare painted pet looks so cool, but avoid making any major purchases if it’s going to take up more than half your current cash in the bank, especially before you’ve made a few hundred thousand NP. What was I talking about? Ah yes, Games. Find what games are best for you, since everyone has a different style. I would suggest games that are profitable and fun for you. I personally prefer the action games, when I still play them. But some puzzle and card games interest me as well. A game of Cheat, anyone? IV. Speculation/Investment There are two easy ways to become a NeoMillionare that I’m aware of: Stocks and Items. Since buying and selling items isn’t quite my forte, and I’ve already referred you to some of leb388’s articles, and there are many other fine articles out there on it, I will skip to my favorite, the Stocks. On the stocks page, you will see the ticker floating by in a marquee at the top of the screen. Get used to reading it and understanding what the symbols mean. Your portfolio will be small at first, but if you choose wisely, it will grow. My personal method is to buy my 1000 share limit all in one company, the math is easier for me that way. You may want to start off buying 100 shares at a time. Choose a stock within the 15-20 NP a share range to maximize your profits. You can sell at any time you choose to, but I often wait until the value has at least doubled. Keep in mind that Nigel the Chia charges a 20 NP fee every time you sell, so make sure your profit is far in excess of 20 NP. A few things to keep in mind when buying stocks: You can only buy 1000 shares of stock total in a Neopian day. Not just per company. So choose wisely. Also, a mistake I made early on was to think I shouldn’t buy more than 1000 shares of a company’s stock. Of course it is good to diversify, by which I mean buy shares from different companies in different industries, but don’t be afraid to put a lot of NP into a stock you know will pay off eventually. Also, you can sell many different stocks at a time, and I would recommend doing so when you have more than one that has increased in value. Wait a few days, weeks, or sometimes even months, and you will be making a lot of NP with stocks. Just be sure to put as much NP as you can into stocks, and have the rest earning interest in the bank or tied up in items you intend to sell for profit. V. Wait and Enjoy! While I think the title of this section is self-explanatory, I leave you with some words of caution: Be patient. Don’t spend more than half your money. I could have bought some stocks for cheap that rocketed up to over 200 NP a share had I not blown it all on some item I thought was going to be sold for a lot more than when I bought them in a few weeks. So wait until you have more than enough NP before you start getting all those fancy things. And remember, use your imagination. NeoPets is about having fun, and although getting rich is one of the major Neopian goals, as well as a major goal in real life, it shouldn’t be all-consuming. Make some friends, join a guild, make a petpage, or even become a Times Author. There is so much more to Neopets than Neopoints. Never forget that. Well, I hope you liked this guide! This goes very fast so you wont have a chance unless your comp is pretty fast Fast Food Shop Feed your pets fast with a some common food or a special treat, while supporting our guild! Even if you would only buy an 30np omelette or 20np jelly a day, all these small amounts a day make a big difference Why spend np for food on other shops while you can support our guild? The Art Of Making Money Through Trades And Auctions Not good at restocking because you have a really slow computer? Well I have found a solution to all of your problems. The next best way of making bid money is through trades and auctions. One thing you mus remember to have is Patience. Patience is needed a lot, especially if you want to make big money. You must also be quick, so when you find a good deal, you have to act and bid before someone else does. Auctions There are lots of extremely cheap items in Auctions, you just have to keep looking. (TIP: Look for something Hard To Sell, maybe an item that is Rarity 99 and/or weapons(because that is what everyone likes). You must go for the item that is cheap, but also you must make sure you can make a profit from it (Any profit even small is better than nothing). (TIP: The best way to make a good trade, is bidding the item you have on other easier to sell items- DO NOT put the item up for trade asking for a lot, because no one will pay a lot for hard to sell items.) Example: I bought a Heavyweight Boxing Gloves(Rarity 99 Weapon) for 180k. After having patience and looking through trades and chat rooms I finally found something worth the Gloves, and a little easier to sell. So I bid the Gloves On a Pot Of Darkness. The person accepted, and right then I knew I would make a profit from paying 180k for the gloves. So then I put up the Pot of Darkness for 450k, and sold it in less than 5 minutes. Lesson Learned: Patience Is the Way To Success. Trades A lot of people use trades, the rich people and the newbies. There are always cheap things to find in trades, you just have to know the right prices to buy the items. (TIP: First look at the user who owns the item, if he/she is experienced with lots of trophies and lots of expensive trades, they will not accept a low bid. If it is a newbie, and they mostly have junk, chances are that they found the item from a random event, and they will take almost anything). Newbie Lots Sometimes newbies find items like paintbrushes in random events, and they do not notice the price on it. You can tell, if a lot is a Newbie Lot, if there is an item/s worth a lot included with some junk items. If the user is on only for a few months, and they have no wishlist asking for much, then bid low and the chances of them accepting is 50/50(Maybe someone else saw it). Desperate Times At night time(Neopian Time) is the best time for trading. Not a lot of people on, and people start to get desperate to trade items for a low price. Example: You can get a Faerie Paint Brush For 170k to 175k then sell for 185k to 190k for an easy profit. Remember any profit is better than no profit. Hard To Sell Items There are pros and cons in buying Hard to Sell Items. Cons: It will take a long time to trade them at a good price and to find the right buyer. Pros: You can get them for a really cheap price, and you can sell for a really bid profit. Tips On How Not To Lose Money: 1) Don’t pay for something which you know you cannot get a profit off of. 2) Don’t pay a lot for items that have been recently released, chances are that they are low in rarity and will go down in price fast. 3) Don’t fall for scam items. IMPORTANT: Read the full name of the object before bidding. Example: Magical And Not Magical Plushies - Paint Brushes And Paint Brush Plushies. 4) If they say it is a Hidden Tower Item, check with chat to see how much its worth, or go check: http://www.pinkpt.com/idb. The Life of an Auction Dealer AUCTIONS - Everyone wants to make lots and lots of Neopoints and there are many ways to do that. Most earn NP from games, but I earn mine from buying and selling items through auctions. Why auctions, you ask? Because items are often underpriced and you can easily overprice an item and still have lots of people bid! Some may call me a cold-hearted peddler, trying to scam others out of their hard-earned NP, but I beg to differ. I am simply a dealer who is always on the lookout for bargains and ways to make profits. Even though the life of a dealer may seem simple, even crude, but it requires more shrewdness, more speed, more knowledge, and more flexibility than making a living through games requires. In this article, I will be discussing the four qualities that I just mentioned, some secrets of the trade, and more insight on the life of an auction dealer! Step I: Finding the Right Item As a dealer, I buy items that are really under priced. Then, I sell them for a very reasonable, yet profitable amount for both the buyer and the seller (which would be me). To make a profit as a dealer, I just hang around the auctions at the items that will be closing soon. Then, whenever I see an item I believe to be under priced, I check on the Shop Wizard to find the lowest price. If the price of the item on the Shop Wizard is 2000 NP or more than that of the item that is being auctioned, I will make a bid on it and continue to do that until I can no longer bid on the item. If I am lucky, I win the item. Step 2: Selling the Item To sell the item, I usually put it in my shop at an even cheaper price than the lowest one of the Shop Wizard. If nobody buys it after a day or two, I put it in the auctions at a price that is about 1000 NP less than what I want to get from it. I then post a few messages about the low price of the item, and then, as they say in France, voila! I’m a few thousand Neopoints richer and some Neopian is happy because of their new item. The Four Qualities There are four qualities that all experienced dealers have are very important to their success. As I previously mentioned, they are shrewdness (or cleverness), speed and agility, knowledge, and flexibility. Shrewdness: Both when buying and selling, shrewdness is absolutely vital! To sell an item that is slightly overpriced, one needs to know how to make momentum. Never, never, NEVER overprice the starting price of bids on the auctions. When you sell your items on the auctions, make sure that they’re less than those on the Shop Wizard. Most people check on the Shop Wizard before they buy something and pretty much nobody will buy an item that is overpriced when they could buy it for much less NP in a shop and get it immediately! Shrewdness on how to get people to bid is also important. Once a lot of people bid an item, the amount of NP you get from the item tends to escalate. For example, when I was selling a Deaver on the auctions at 800 NP, I posted lots of messages on the Trading/Auctions chat so that everyone would know the deal they would be getting if they bought my Deaver since it costs more than 8,000 on the Shop Wizard. Almost immediately, the price of the petpet rose from 800 to 4,000! At closing time, the price was a nice 7,000 NP! Considering that I had bought it for 3,000 NP, I was extremely pleased. Speed: The life of an auction dealer isn’t for those with slow 48k modems. Even though you can still make a profit with slow modems, I suggest that most people have high speed Internet such as DSL or cable. I can’t even recall just how many times I won an auction since I had DSL and the other bidders didn’t. To be truly successful, a dealer must know exactly how fast their Internet is and how to use that to their advantage. Since I have bid on so many items, I know exactly when I should bid to get the item. Knowledge: To save time and many Neopoints, a dealer needs to know how the prices are of common auction items such as scratchcards and codestones. If you know that an average codestone goes for 3500 NP, you won’t be looking up the Mau Codestone that is at 3800 NP and possibly missing a deal that could earn you thousands! Knowledge of when the auctions are busy is also extremely important because it’ll allow you to make sure there are lots of people looking at your item. It’ll also let you have a better chance at getting a good item. Flexibility: This is one of the most important qualities for a person to have, even if he or she is not an auction dealer. Flexibility allows me to sell an item at an extremely cheap price and not feel bad when I see the same item going for lots more. Flexibility also allows me to empty out my bank account when I see an item that could possibly double it. Secrets of the Trade Like any occupation, there are secrets that will help you. For example, the times when there are the least number of Neopians in the auctions are from midnight to noon. The busiest times are probably from 6:00 NST to 9:00 during the summer and 3:00 to 6:00 during the school year. Another secret is have three windows open at all times: one for the auctions, one for the Shop Wizard, and one for the Bank in case you need more NP. Staying alert is also very important. But most important of all, HAVE FUN!

Tips for running a successful shop Restock times are random! Since the restock times are random now you just have to keep checking the shops for restock! This still takes quit some patience and a pretty fast comp/connection Buy your items at the Neopian shops and sell them with good profit at your shop. Every shop has its rare and uncommon items ,items sold out within 10-30 seconds you can consider as very popular so also highly prized at the marketplace/shopwizard. Sell books and [recently discovered ;o)] chocolates from the chocolate factory they sell fast and give good profit. And don't forget the Igloo Garage Sale!!!{located at terror mountain} It has bargains on the most awesome stuff like codestones, faeries, petpets and many other stuff. This shop usually restock 40-45 seconds after the other shops restock and you can get only one item every two minutes so choose wise;) USE THE SHOPWIZARD!!! To compare your prizes with other shops, especially when you've been wondering why nobody buys from your shop! When you've made some profit try to upgrade your shop, The bigger your shop gets, the higher it appears on the list at the marketplace and the more likely people are to visit it! Don’t overdo it though;) Sell Uber/snow Faerie quest items. Visit the auctions for bargains on neggs, furniture, paintbrushes and more! Remember every third day of the month is half prize day at the Neopian shops! Especially furniture saves you a lot of Neopoints! Place some extra cheap items like food which you wouldn't make to much profit with anyway in your shop. It attracts customers fast and might tempt them to have a look and buy something more from your shop;) Don't place to much html/graphics for your shop since it takes longer to load for your customers and try to keep the background not to crowded so the focus will be on the items you sell.
