THE FLOOR |
The bottom of your bird's cage can be covered with newspaper, paper toweling, kraft paper, etc. to catch droppings and make daily cleanup quick and easy. Some people layer several sheets of paper and pick up the top layer each day. At the end of the week, it's time for the cage to be scrubbed thoroughly and another layer of papers put down. We do not feel that corncob or liter should be used in a bird's cage under any circumstances. If eaten, it cannot pass through the bird's system because it swells and is not digestible. It can cause impaction and death. Even if the corncob or liter cannot be reached by the birds to be eaten, it becomes a breeding ground for molds and bacteria, some of which are capable of killing a bird in as little as a week or less. And finally, the third reason corncob or liter should not be used is because a bird's droppings will become lost or not easily seen to be examined. Yes, when you own a bird, you become a "poopologist." You can refer to the section on "Health" for more information about this. |
