| Face plant: When a gymnast falls on his or her face. Also called 'eating mat' F.I.G.: Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (International Federation of Gymnastics) Govering body of the sport of gymnastics on the international level. Final Score: The score once the Difficulty (A) and Execution (B) Scores are added together. Flic-Flac: An element in which the gymnast takes off on one or two feet, jumps backwards onto hands, then lands on their feet. Also called a 'flip flop' or 'back handspring' Flight Series: On the balance beam, a series of acrobatic elements performed from one end of the beam to another in combination. Example: Jenna Bossle completes a flight series on beam. (YouTube link) Flip: A full rotation in the air, either forwards backwards or sideways, without using the arms Floor: A aparatus measuring about 12x12 meters on which the gymnast competes the floor exercise event. A white line surrounds this space and determines if a gymnast steps out-of-bounds. Example: Picture of a floor space. Floor Exercise: An event in both men's and women's artistic gymnastics competition. Completed on an area measuring about 12x12 meters. For men the event consists of tumbling and strength moves, and lasts 50 to 90 seconds. For women, the event also consists of tumbling, yet is set to music and also features dance elements. Flyspring: A handspring launched from both feet. Also called a 'dive handspring' Front support: Hips supported on the bar. Front vault: Vault over the horse with a straight body facing it. Full-in, Back-out: A double sumersault (salto) with a full twist on the first salto. |
