Grizzly
First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #139

A former pro-wrestler, Maxwell Markham was kicked out of the ring because of his violent actions in the ring, actions brought to attention by J. Jonah Jameson. A decade later, Markham encountered the Jackal, otherwise known as Professor Miles Warren, who equipped Markham with an strength enhancing body suit and Grizzly costume. Markham, now calling himself the Grizzly, attacked J. Jonah Jameson as revenge, though was quickly defeated by Spider-Man who also destroyed the Grizzly's body armor and wrecked his costume. His wrestling past beckoning, the Girzzly sought a rematch, and years later, after having his broken suit and tattered costume restored by the Tinkerer, the Grizzly attacked Spider-Man again. After a long battle, Spidey came to the conclusion that Markham wouldn't give up until he had defeated Spider-Man once and for all, and allowed the Grizzly to believe that he had broken Spider-Man's back and killed him. His goal achieved, Grizzly returned home, secure in his victory.

Of course Spider-Man survived, and Grizzly learned this in time and organized a Spider-Man revenge squad, composed of other contenders who met their defeat at Spidey's hand: The Spot, the Kangaroo and the Gibbon. The Grizzly and the Gibbon though saw Spider-Man's true, good intentions despite their failures, and chose to reform, becoming a heroic super hero team. When last seen the team of the Gargantuan Grizzly and Gibbon, the boy monkey, aided Spider-Man (in the guise of the Bombastic Bagman) against the threat of the White Rabbit, and finally got the praise they both wanted as major heroes and actually got their own action figures. What they're up to now though is anyone's guess.

Powers and Abilities: Thanks to a specially developed exo-skeleton, the Grizzly has super-human strength abilities.
