Lelia Davis
First appearance: (as Lelia Davis) The Deadly Foes of Spider-Man #1; (as Hardshell) The Lethal Foes of Spider-Man #1; (as Beetle II) Thunderbolts #49

The wife of the late Anthony Davis, a man better known as the masked criminal the Ringer, Leila Davis was devastated when her husband was gunned down by the Scourge, a villain who went around murdering criminals. The Ringer, who as a villain frequently encountered defeat, was murdered in the fabled "Bar with no name" alongside eighteen other villains in the Scourge's campaign to eliminate supervillains. Leila's grief over her husband's death grew to rage, though not directed towards the Scourge, who had been killed himself, but the Beetle, a one-time accomplise of the Ringer. It was during a meeting that the Beetle demoralized Anthony, and Leila felt that Beetle's words were what led to Anthony's death. Taking up partnerships with the Rhino, Hydro-Man, Speed Demon and Boomerang, Leila became an unofficial member of the Sinister Syndicate, all the while plotting her revenge.

Deciding that it would be best to gain her retribution on the Beetle's terms, Leila herself donned a suit of armor and began calling herself Hardshell. Again in the company of the Sinister Syndicate, Leila went after the Beetle in a scheme involving the Syndicate as well as the Vulture, Stegron, Doctor Octopus, the Answer and Swarm. Towards the edn of the battle royale though a mystery man clad in an armored suit appeared, with the intent of approaching Leila. She would discover that the armored man was actually Anthony, resurrected by the scientists at Advanced Idea Mechanics for reasons not fully explained. Upon learning that her husband has been brought back to life, Leila gave up her pursuit of the Beetle and with Anthony she left for a better life.

However, they not not have a fairy tale ending, as in time Anthony's armor would shut down, though his final days were spent better this time around, Leila at his side when he died once more. Realizing the futility of her mad pursuits, Leila gave herself up to the United States government and was enrolled into a program to attone for her past crimes. The project was named "Redeemers" and with other meta-humans looking to clear their own records, Leila was given a new suit of armor to become the new Beetle of this team. The Redeemer's fell quickly into service though when the villains-turned-heroes the Thunderbolts were given pardons provided they renounced their criminal ways. Taking their place, the Redeemer's kept up the good fight for truth, justice and the American way, until an old foe of the Thunderbolts, Graviton, returned, his powers now at new and sinister levels. With ease Graviton slew most of the Redeemers, including Leila, who was crushed alive in her suit. Perhaps now she can find the peace she did not have in life.

Powers and Abilities: Average person, Leila Davis did not have any superpowers, but in her armored forms of Hardshell and the Beetle, she had flight-packs, power blasts and advanced computer systems at her control.
