Amazing Spider-Man with Devil Dinosaur Annual 1998 (July 1998)
DeFalco Lyle Jones

Amazing Annual 1998 the plot: As Peter Parker and Daily Bugle reporter Noel Beckford cover a story on Devil Dinosaur and Moonboy, two prehistoric wonders who mysteriously popped up in New York recently, the villainous Ringmaster (aka: Maynard Tiboldt) and Princess Python (aka: Zelda Dubois) arrive at the labs wishing to take DD and Moonboy away, claiming it's a violation of Moonboy's rights as a minority member. After having a face to face encounter with the hypnotic Ringmaster, Moonboy is inclined to agree and the two missing links set off to join his Circus of Crime. Later at the Bugle, Dr. Maples, the doctor incharge of looking after Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur, pleads with J. Jonah Jameson to sway public opinion so Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur can go back to the labs but Jameson is reluctant, thinking that if they go on a rampage the story will boost circulation for the Bugle.

Ducking out of Dr. Maple's meeting with Jameson to put on his Spider-Man suit, Peter confronts Tiboldt at his circus and is shocked to see that things are actually all right for Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur there, though he remains suspicious. Peter's suspicions appear to be unwarranted though when he, Noel and Dr. Maples attend the opening night showing and the Ringmaster doesn't try to rob the crowd via his hypnotic hat, his usual m.o. But Peter's not totally off base though, for the following day at the Bugle reporter Ben Urich informs him that several major burglaries were committed last night, and the thiefs had to have been trained acrobats to have pulled off the heists.

That night, far away from the Rimgmaster's circus, Spider-Man has tracked down a van using his Spider sense and sees Luigi Gambonno, one of the CoC's acrobats, shot out of the roof of the van and into a jewelry store. Spidey quickly deals with the thieves and goes after the Ringmaster himself, though runs into a bit of a problem when the brainwashed Moonboy commands Devil Dinosaur to attack Spidey. Spidey dodges the attacks until Cannonball from the CoC is shot out to hit Spidey and hits Moonboy instead. The shock from the hit was enough to bring Moonboy to his senses and he recognizes Peter's scent from earlier, remembering him as friend. It's not long before the combined might of Spider-Man, Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur defeat the Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime.

As the Ringmaster and his cronies are carted off to police custody, Dr. Maples is at a loss when it comes of what to do with Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur. He mentions that they may be able to go back to the lab, until Spidey comes up with a solution...The Savage Land. Now free as they were in their own world, Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur roam the prehistoric-like Savage Land, while Peter, Dr. Maples and Noel look on. Dr. Maples mentions his desire to stay in the Savage Land to study there, and asks Peter when he'll be heading back to New York. Peter mentions when Noel is ready, though she admits she wishes to study with Dr. Maples. And we close with Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur looking over their new home, where they can be free.
