The Helpful Hamster
History-
Hamsters belong to the rodent group of mammals, this means that they have hair on their skin and are warm blooded. The female of the species gives birth to live young and feeds them on their own milk.

The syrian or golden hamster origionally came from Syria. The first hamsters which were bred in captivity were in Isreal and then were introduced to Britain later as pets. More recently other breeds of hamsters have appeared in different parts of the world, for example, the chinese hamster (these are smaller than syrians, of brown colour and a longer tail than their syrian cousins).

Syrian hamsters do not like the company of other hamsters, (if you want to keep more than one in the same cage, you will have to get dwarf hamsters) and a well looked after hamster will be happy living on their own
