Catalyst History

Bryce Burnett, along with several other woodsball players, formed Catalyst in July of 2004.  It was a 5-man team, of which only one member had actually played on an actual airball field.  Bryce, along with Eric Slape, Lee, Shawn Poole and Jake played their first tournament in September and finished 4th overall.

Jake was injured shortly after that tournament and we picked up Louie Webb.  With his help, we played our next tournament in November, and won!  With that win, we decided to expand into larger venues - namely, the KOPS tournament.  Shawn dropped out to pursue school, so we picked up Bradly.  We played one tournament, but there was trouble on the team.  Bryce and Louie dropped off the team to give themselves a break from paintball.  During that time, the team disappeared.

A few months later, Bryce and Louie decided to start paintballing again and formed another team called GBD, this time with Louie as captain and Bryce as his co-captain.  A couple of weeks after that, they picked up Josh Sigmund and renamed the team The KO Boys.  With borrowed players, the KO Boys played in an open tournament and placed 8th.  Not bad!  However, it was clear we needed a team with players we could practice with.

We picked up four local players - Casey Cornejo, Garrett Wreath, Levi Lee and Justin Lee.  After a few more weeks, only Levi and Justin remained.  Josh soon left the team and along came Justin Kimball.

On September 1, 2006, we took back the name Catalyst after it became clear that the name was no longer in use.  The first tournament we played as the revamped Catalyst was the New Year's tournament in which we took 2nd place.  However, a month later, Bryce left the team shortly due to burnout and wanted to focus on his family and his job.

Louie led the team to a couple of tournaments after this, and a few of the members attended a couple 3 man tournaments, but it was clear the team was done.  In the winter of 2007, although they never said it, the team was through.

The Catalyst name continues, with a young 3-man team from our home field.  They weren't associated with the team, so there aren't any pictures or stats for them here.  I hope they do well, though!
