The CATS video had many advantages over other productions. There was a full orchestra, the ability to re-do scenes until the directors were satisfied, and a bigger budget. You'll notice that the makeup and costumes are based on the London production. However, the lines and patterns are softer and more blended than what would actually be on stage due to the fact that cameras would be much closer to the actors than an audiance ever would be. Some characters went throught larger changes. Electra's costume was completely based on a brown/black/rust color scheme, Gus was missing his trademark scarf and was much thinner than normal. On the downside, some of the music and dancing were cut due to time and tape considerations, but all in all these pictures show the stunning visual aspects of CATS to it's fullest, showing how so much of what captures the imaginatin is the wonderfully vivid imagery.
