SUICIDE
I live in a small town, and recently have had three suicides take place. I have even had a friend of mine ask me if suicide was wrong. I think to myself, "Why? I love life so much, and I wish I could have MORE time in life to LIVE! Why would they want to END their life???" I have came to the conclusion that the reason they want to stop living, is because they don't experience the LIFE and joy that I do since I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. They don't have hope, but I do. And so if you are thinking about suicide or know someone who is please take the time to read this with an open heart. [Feel free to cut/paste this to a program in which you can print this out on... Then hand it to the friend who is thinking about suicide. You can also use a copy for your own reference.]
Is suicide wrong?
Exodus 20:13/ "Do not murder"
Yes! If God wants us to live at peace with one another, and love them then he surely does not want us to kill them! It is the same thing with our own body. He wants us to not destroy it, but to take care of it.
If God gave us life, then he certainly would not want us to pre-maturely kill ourself! In fact, God did not intend for us to die. He created us and wanted us to live forever. Then man sinned and that sin gave us spiritual and physical death. --See Genesis 2:15-17; and Genesis 3-- (Jesus died for us so that we could once again live spirtually forever!)
Exodus 20:12\ Respect your father and your mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.
Notice that God said that you will live a LONG TIME. Honoring your parents is good, and if you do this good thing then you will receive a blessing right? And this blessing is for you to live a long time? Yes! So, that means that life is a blessing... a gift. God does not want you to end your life.
John 10:10/ A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.
Jesus came not only for us to have life, but to have it in its fullest!
There are many more examples in the Bible where characters show you that life is precious. Take Noah for example. God spared Noah, because he did good. Noah was blessed by God saving him! This is one of many, many times that the Bible relates to how life is good and should be kept.
What should I do!? I am having thoughts about suicide! Life is just too hard, and I can't take it anymore! Is there a way out?
Matthew 11:28-30/ If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.
Yes! There is a way out. Jesus is the way! See, we can't make it on our own. It is just too hard for us alone. We need help! How do we get this help? Well, when you become a Believer you will be given a new strength, which will wipe away all of your loneliness, pain, worry, and bad feelings. (Life won't be perfect, but we will have God to help us. When we do have trouble then we, as Believers, can trust that God will carry us through it. When he does, we will grow stronger in our faith.) When you have a relationship with Jesus Christ you will be changed, given help, and not have to go through life by yourself. You will have a meaning to life, a new happiness, and a peace that only God can give. God will help you!
2 Corinthians 5:17/ Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.
See, when you have a relationship with Christ you are changed and completely new! Your helper will be the Holy Spirit who will guide and instruct you. The Holy Spirit will give you a strength to overcome and to live in the fullest!
Another prospective on suicide...
Many people think of suicide to the physical body. I have thought of how people committ suicide to themselves without really realizing it until they are dead. How is this? They never trust in Jesus Christ and when they are judged and sentenced to hell they will realize that they had the chance to live spiritually forever but chose not to. They will realize that they committed suicide to themselves spiritually, because they didn't trust in Christ.
Oh, my friend... Don't do yourself this crime! If you don't know Christ, then go to this page to see how to. The time is now. If you want to give your life up to anything then give it up to Christ and not death!
