Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco, CA at Jackson Street Hospital.Lee Hoi-Chuen was his fathers name and his mothers name was Grace Lee. The name, Lee Jun-Fan means "Return again Lee." The reason for the name Lee Jun-Fan is that in hopes he'd return to the United States some day. Also "Lee" is pronounced "Lay". In 1941 he returned with family to Kowloon, Hong Kong. In the year 1952 he entered La Salle College, which is a Catholic boy's school. From 1952-1959 he attended St. Francis Xavier College (which is a high school). Between 1954-1957 he studied Wing Chun under the instruction of Yip Man. From 1957-1958 he continued Wing Chun under the instruction of Wong Shun-Leung. Between 1957-1959 Bruce Lee continued Wing Chun under the instruction of William Cheung. In 1958 he appeared in his fist movie "The Orphan." In Bruce Lee wrote "Chinese Gung Fu: The Philosophical Art of Self Defense" (Burbank: Ohara, 1963). On February 1, 1965 his son Brandon was born. He also visited Hong Kong in the same year. In September he returned from Hong Kong to Seattle. On April 19, 1969 his daughter Shannon was born. And on December 1, 1972 the death of Bruce's Wing Chun Sifu Yip Man was in Hong Kong. Bruce did not attend the funeral. On July 20, 1973 he died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong. He is buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Seattle. If you wish to pay your respects in person, Lake View Cemetery is at 1554 15th Avenue East, just north of Volunteer Park, in the Capitol Hill area east of downtown Seattle. After entering the cemetery, follow the road straight ahead towards the top of the hill. Then turn north from there and within a few feet you should find the gravesite of Bruce and his son Brandon just to your right (east) of the road. Gates are open from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M.
