Rain

I’m going to stand in the rain

with my bare feet

on the damp sidewalk.

I will feel the thunder vibrating

under my soles,

seeping into my skin,

pulsing through my blood.

I will be shaking,

and weak,

and so alive.

I will open my heart

for the lightning.

I will open my eyes,

too,

and risk going blind.

I will smile

when the water slides

down my arms,

rolls down my cheeks,

is captured in my hair,

delves beneath my clothes,

and makes me

Shiver.

I will part my lips.

I will open my mouth

and drink it in.

I will imagine

it is you.
