to my mother

Pride

i want you to know
that my pride broke.
it snapped
in the solitude of my car
under the weight
of the tears that blurred
my already dim vision.
it was as the road swam
and the stories being told
on the radio
were drwoned out
by the sobs that had crashed
through the barrier
in my throat
or heart
that i realized
i was wrong.

i'm ready now
to say
i'm sorry.
