ONENESS
Oneness, how many of us have heard this term over and over again but have never actually heard a decent definition? Something to help us on our way? For the "Lone Seeker" this presents as a major obstacle, for how else do we confirm our progress and direction than through the sharing of Experiences? It is to this end that I would like share my own views/experiences of Oneness.
We all, on a daily basis, strive to "fit in" with our surroundings, those that we interact with and seek a sense of Belonging to wherever we are at any given time. We join groups of like-minded people, say the "right things" and generally juggle between the person we need to be and the person we think "fits in". It makes Life easier to "fit in". What if we tried to "fit in" with the Universe? To seek a sense of belonging with that, would that not be more rewarding?
To try to convey the type of emotion involved, I would ask that you try to recall a time when you suddenly had the realization, "Yesssss! This is what it's all about! This is where it's at!". Remember the elation? The sense of belonging? The sense of not needing anything more?
This is of course, very basic, but these emotions are similar to Oneness. It goes deeper than just that sense of belonging to any one particular event. It is the Knowledge (not the Belief) that you are a part of the Whole in a very complete sense. It is the Knowledge that you are having a very real relationship with your surroundings, Nature and the Universe, that Everything is interconnected and that you too, are "connected". It is the feeling of complete Inner Calm and being able to experience the Unconditional Love that pervades the entire Universe and being a part of it.
Early 2001, I had one such an experience. I was walking across a moor in a favourite Country Park with my family, in front of me was a full moon and behind the winter Sun. I was contemplating the fact that the light was hitting from the sun behind but also from the front as it was reflecting back to me from the moon on a 600,000 mile round trip from the moon, when I experienced one of those moments where there is a complete stillness and silence. In that moment I needed nothing, I was at one with myself and the Universe. I was in a state of Contentment. I felt a calm, loving Peace within. In that moment, the day to day trivialities of Materialism did not matter, I was connected to the Divine.
Experiences like the above help to keep us focussed. They aid us to experience the Love that pervades and fills the entire Universe and maintain contact with it on a daily basis, which is, the hardest part of the Enlightenment Process, actually Living the Experience. I find that keeping experiences such as this to the forefront of my Consciousness help me to live my everyday existence in a more Spritual, Loving, Forgiving and non-Judgemental manner. Not every day of course, but I'm trying!
