Philip Carmens'
Poetry
Growth Out of Hardship

Out of the ash heap
Grows a rose,
Out of the wasteland
A Life exposed.
Exposed to the elements
Alien ground,
Dirty and dismal
yet new life abounds.
Thriving in hardship
growing more each day,
raising it's branches
Joyfully.

I am your Peace, Make Peace with Me

A storm arose within your heart
When someone spoke ill of you:
Swirling around like angry clouds,
Your restless emotions
Thundered, and were proud.

I speak to you "be still you winds;
be calm your troubled sea
If you would my servant be.

For I desire a better you,
Only asking that you desire
Much more of Me".

Come to Me

Come to me upon the water,
Come to me upon the waves.
Even though circumstances do not alter.
Worry is a worldly bustle;
Activity a slave.

Come to me as you are,
The sea is calmer now.
You are free to follow.
Follow after.
Free to stoop and bow.

Overcoming

They shade my world
These overhangs of unproductive gloom,
The sun through hinks of light
Attempts to reveal my room,
The room where I always  come
When trouble showss its ugly head.
At times like this I sulk and brood
And wish that I were dead.
Even shadows cast their own shadows
And beneath this equatorial screen
I sweat out all my remorse and fears
Of what might have been.
Yet through the gloom my spirit looms
As a a knight with sword in hand
And wrestles to combat the gloom
And with his help to stand
The chinks of light fall over me
They cast out all my fears.
My knight has overcome the foe
And in my heart new hope appears.
