SELF
I am more than aware of the vast amounts of information and contradicting theories on the subject of "Self" that abound these days. If you have read the About Me page you will already know that I did a lot of soul-searching before I set about reading anything I could in order to find the bits that fitted with my theory of Everything.
During this time I came up with the following without the aid of books etc. It bears a resemblance to the Amerindian outlook, but is very obviously a lot more simplistic in nature.
This is my view of Self.
1.
Subconscious This is where the physical body functions without being given conscious orders from the conscious brain, the heart pumping when we are asleep, swallowing etc.
2.
Instinct This is where the "Fight or Flight" reaction takes place, but is also an area we can tap into when faced with difficult decisions and say "I'm going with my instinct here". In other words, sometimes things "feel" right.
3.
Conscious This is where we live in this moment, the "here and now". Where we exercise freewill, make moral arguments and experience the Physical Plane.
4.
Higher Self Not the term I used to begin with, but it fits. This the part of us that we aspire to on a daily basis, the part of us that is eternally connected to the Divine or Universal Energy or Great Spirit.

Of course, many disagree with this way of thinking as Everything simply "is" therefore we simply "are". I go along with this too, Everything most definately, simply "is". However, I do feel most strongly that, here in the Physical, our purpose is to experience and that that experience includes questioning our existence and breaking everything down into it's basic components in order to make sense of this existence. Indeed, to the point where reason itself, becomes abstract.
I would also support this reasoning by reminding you of the amount of times we have all used the term "Part of me says....but another part says....". This statement is usually used when faced with moral dilemas. As this statement has probably been used for Millennia, the implications for me, are that we all have, at some subliminal level, a recognition that there are indeed various levels/aspects of Self. The Ancients were, in my opinion, much more aware and astute than us when it came to Spiritual matters and understanding themselves as individuals.
