First off, i do like some metal- some Metallica and Megadeth, and i love Sabbath and grunge metallers Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, this is an attack on (predominantly) Modern Metal, and Nu-Metal, 80s metal was much differant, or at least Hair and Glam metal was- it was equally as crass as Nu-Metal is today, apart it was purely about fun, and had no pretensions that it was anything other than party music (unlike Nu-Metal today). Thrash metal on the other hand, including Metallica and Megadeth was over-the-top, needlessly agressive and obnoxsioous, however Metallica seemed to be, (albeit limited), talented musicians. The one thing that everyone seems to have against metal, is that it is a bad influenced. Everyone knows of the Tipper Gore's attempted attack at the metal scene in the 80s, and of course, the Columbine incident and the attack on Mr. Manson. Is it their fault? "I don't favor the idea that kids imitate what they see. I don't believe it, because I think kids are smarter than that. But I can't believe that a steady stream of antisocial images isn't going to eventually have some effect..." Music is influential, and someone like Marilyn Manson is absolutely idolised by KIDS today, in much the same way as Spirngsteen were idolised by the working class Americans, i KNOW kids who love Marilyn, and now beleive that 'God Is In The TV'. This man is either too fucking stupid, or too fucking arrogant to realise that he is infuencing his fans, not to go out and kill, but just generallly anti-social There's enough amoralistic corruption runnig through out the world, we don't need it running through the music scene also, one of the few places thats allow a release from everything. (to be fair its not just metal that is responsible, there is equal amount of this crap within punk, hip hop, rap, and the dance scene). On the other hand it not just the bands themselves that are to blame, their fans are morons. a perfect example of this is Rage Against The Machine, an incredibly powerful band (although i don't agree with many of their politicl standpoints), they write about liberation, facism, consumerism, corperate america, hipocrisy and injustice - their song 'Killing In The Name' everyone knows that final verse, that incidiary and powerful rebel yell of political upheaval, i have personally witnessed, on several occasions, arrogant pinheaded kids screming 'fuck you i won't do what you tell me' to teachers and in one case, a female police officer, purely becuase they were told to settle down. Monkey motherfuckers. a blatent idiotic misinterpretation of someone else poetry. The 1995 movie 'Airheads', Rich Wilkes' metaller's answer to Wayne's World (starring Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, and the man Steve Buscemi), a movie that i like and enjoyed immensly, is a great example of the culture of modern and 80s metalheads, throughout the movie they hail talentless hacks like Pantera and Rob Zombie as Gods... Chazz: Who'd win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God? Chris Moore: Lemmy. Chris Moore: ...God? Rex: Wrong, dickhead, trick question. Lemmy *IS* God. ...spout of about how their music is real and not corperate, then turn around and trash the grunge scene ..."were not that seattle shit", and classic rock, ..."do you really think i give a shit about The Beatles?", you fucking should mate. Oh yeah Rich Wilkes is also the genius behind the 2002's Triple X (XXX). And Rob Zombie is a retard anyway... 'before Metallica it sucked, well there was Sabbath and Motorhead but that was it'. What a gimp. What is this modern metal all about, why the agression? Jonathan Davies (amoung many others) claim that their anger is due to hard upbringing, and disturbed childhoods, but whay is that relevent now that you're rich and famous? It's well known about Eddie Vedder's adolescence, he's very lyrical an that, but that didn't stop Pearl Jam from writing delicate melodies and soulful ballads about range of feelings and emotions. Music is life, and life is music, music is more than just agression against the status quo. if you were a real musician, and your music is real, you'll find that a whole range of emotions run through your musical expression. this is what limits punk and metal, it seems to be unable to grip anything else seeing as members of slipknot have children, and a writing music for films like spiderman- a tale of responsibilty and ethics, I assume, and pray, that all this is just an act Bands like Mariln Manson, Slpiknot, They have got no more, o sunbstance in their music than Blink 182, or even NSync, they exist as an alterantive to those artsist- their music is no more real than theirs, they're aimed at the same age range, they write for the same age range , the fact that they traash this music is perfect example of the purile arrogance and nonsensicle agression of out generations icons. The point of this argument, the epitome of everything that is worng with this music, this culture Woodstock 99, a sickening display of what is our generation is about, This is 'real' music? and this is what it is about? Well fuck that I'm happy that the Nu-Metal wave is over, Limp Bizkit and KoRn are fading away, and being fairly visciously trashed along the way. Asfor this Alt. Metal scene that currently seems to be doing its damage...... Hmm Well? Thank God for Cameron Crowe, |
