The Syndicate is based out of Barrie, Ontario and formed in 2002. In essence they are a band who like to rock, while at the same time trying to push the envelope. Their sound is essentially that of a washy, dynamic lead section combined with a tight, melodic rhythm section and can be classified as Ambient Rock. Influences range from fusion and hardcore to ambient and ska, and their sound has been compared to the likes of Fugazi, Radiohead and The Constantines.

Their debut album ‘Give Me Your Money’ in October of 2002. The album is being put out independently by The Syndicate on their One Star Records label. To aid in promotion of this album there are plans for extensive touring throughout Ontario and Quebec this fall.

The Syndicate was born out of the late night/early morning collaborations of Shane Heath (vocals, guitar) and Dan Allen (guitar, keyboards). After a stage of initial experimentation Shane and Dan decided to add a rhythm section to fill out their sound and add additional elements of creativity. Judson ‘Jud’ McKay (drums) and Evan Rosevear(bass), were given the call, and shortly after that the addition of vocalist Carleigh Aikins was decided upon, thus the band was complete.. Incessant writing, rehearsing, gigging and recording followed, and that hard work seems to be paying off. In the past few months The Syndicate have done well for themselves, opening shows for the likes of Canadian indie rockers The Pursuit Of Happiness, and Imperial Teen the new project of former Faith No More keyboardist Roddy Bottum.

Each of the members brings a wide variety of skills and influences to the table with them. Shane has been professionally involved with music for over ten years, as a founding member of the underground hardcore pioneers Flud and as an owner and operator of One Star Studios. Mr. Allen developed his talents through a dozen years of experimentation on guitar, keyboards, samplers and found objects, and listening to bands like the Melvins, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and a continually growing host of others. Evan has spent a great deal of time studying the theory of music, and honed his chops playing in various jazz, rock and ska bands including the Toronto based ska/jazz outfit The Addicts. Jud, in some respects is the ringleader of the outfit. His extraordinary musicality solidifies the sound of the band and his multi-instrumental abilities are a continual source of inspiration and amazement. Finally there is the most recent addition to the group Carleigh, the youngest member of the group, however what she lacks in experience is more than ofset by raw talent and creativity. Her addition to the group has greatly expanded the dynamic range of the band as well as increasing their pool of influences.

The Syndicate are currently coming back onto the scene after a two month hiatus and are looking forward to playing shows and making new friends, as many of both as they can possibly get.
