| After a miserable summer with the Dursley's, Harry is looking forward to returning to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is hindered however, by a visit from a misterious house elf named Dobey, who insists that Harry cannot return or he will be in great danger. To save the boy wizard, the elf gets him into trouble with the Dursley's who lock him in his room. Harry is able to escape with the help of his friend Ron and his father's flying car. Once Harry arrives at Hogwart's, he finds that the elf was right. Students are being petrified, and rumors of a horrible monster hidden away in the 'Chamber of Secrets' run wild. Could it be that Harry is the legendary Heir of Slytherin? He must get to the bottom of this mystery before a student acually dies like the last time the chamber was opened. |

| While 'Chamber of Secrets' remains a memerable and facinating read, it lacks some of the magic of the other Harry Potter books. While Sorcerer's Stone has the introductions of the world and the looming pressure of the House cup to distract us from the main plot of the stone, Chamber is obsessed with it's own plot. There are no distractions, even the dueling club is directly related to the petrification of the students. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way saying that it is a bad book, just that it lacks some of the magical flare that the other books hold in abundance. Still though, it introduces us to house elves, parselmouth and that cool 'expelimerus' spell that comes in so handy in future volumes. Not to mention that Gilderoy Lockhart is an experience in literature I wouldn't miss for the world. | ||||||||||
