"You can..., but I..."
A careless word; a thoughtless remark; both cause me deep pain inside. You can hurt me just with words, but I will trust you anyway. A broken promise; an unkind gesture; both make me feel hurt and alone. You can hurt me just with actions, but I will trust you anyway. A statement made in jest; a mocking countenance; both make me want to hurt myself. You can hurt me very easily, but I will trust you anyway. I depend on you to keep me safe, but you always seem so unconcerned. You can hurt me if I let you, but I will trust you anyway. You are my family – my tormentors – both together, not my safety net. You can hurt me very deeply, but I will trust you anyway. You can hurt me physically. You can hurt me emotionally. You can hurt me in many ways, but I will trust you anyway. You can hurt me inside. You can hurt me outside. Remember you can hurt me, but I will trust you anyway. Megan Delia Ratcliff 25 March 2004 |
