"First To Go" One night long ago, A wee child was born. The shepherds were the first to go And tell of the wee king just born. As the wee child grew, He went far and abroad To share all He knew. Taught was He by God, His loving, heavenly father. This child was named Jesus. Grief was brought upon His mother When Jesus died to save us; And went on to conquer death. Yet, we leave Him in the manger Forgetting what He did with His death. We missionaries now face hatred and anger From those who don't believe That He sent us to their country. Some would force us to leave, But we always work and try To follow the example set long ago By the shepherds, first to go. Megan Delia Ratcliff 20 December 1995 |
