- When
Arnold Schwarzenegger is sliding down the hill in Columbia, this is almost identical to when he slides down the hill into the riber in Predator (1987).
- The credit for composer Graeme Revell appears as we see Brewer and his son playing with a model kit made by company Revell (presumably no relation).
- Felix Ramirez (John Leguizamo) makes reference to Germans being able to work like cyborgs. Arnold has potrayed the best known cyborg, The Terminator.
- Warner Bros. yanked the original October 5th, 2001 release date, theatrical trailers, radio announcements, posters and even closed down the official website of this film following the terrorist attacks in New York City on September 11th, 2001.
- During very early production on the film, armed bandits held up and hijacked two trucks from the location shoot. The robbers made off with $500,000 feet of film stock, computers and television monitors.
- In August 2000, the producers may have been given an ultimatum by Schwarzenegger saying that if production did not commence September 1st, he will leave the project and ask for a $1.5 million fee. The film was set to begin in July, but financial troubles and health problems with one of the producers had delayed the project.
Gordon Brewer: Why are you taking care of me?
Selena: You saved my son.
Gordon Brewer: And your husband killed mine.
[referring to Selena and Gordon.]
Brandt: You two make quite a team. A fireman and a refugee. Sounds like a T.V. show.
Gordon Brewer: Mm-hmm, and you could play the asshole.
CRITICAL COMMENTS
"Collateral Damage is, despite its alleged provocation post-9/11, an antique, in the end. As are its star, its attitude and its obliviousness." -- John Anderson, Newsday
"A glossy knock-off of a B- movie revenge flick." -- James Berardinelli, Reel Views
"The problem isn't that the movie hits so close to home so much as that it hits close to home while engaging in such silliness as that snake-down-the-throat business and the inevitable shot of Schwarzenegger outrunning a fireball." -- Mark Caro, Chicago Tribune
"Without September 11, Collateral Damage would have been just another bad movie. Now it's a bad embarrassing movie." -- Paul Clinton, CNN
"A skillfully made example of your typical Schwarzenegger action film." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
"More efficient, less bombastic and less tedious than one might expect." -- Edward Guthmann, San Francisco Chronicle
"Head-scratchingly ordinary." -- Desson Howe, Washington Post
