FACTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
RELEASE DATE: November 17th, 2000 (USA) BOX OFFICE OPENING: $13.0 million (USA) BOX OFFICE RESULT: $34.5 million (USA) BUDGET: $82 million (USA) SHOOTING DATES: December 1999 -- May 2000 - The name Adam is a reference to the story of Genesis, as is the title (God created man on the 6th day). - During the film's harrowing underwater climax, Schwarzenegger narrowly escaped death when he became disoriented and swam in the wrong direction, ending up under a platform. Luckily, he was brought to safety by a nearby scuba diver on the set. - Rodney Rowland previously starred in "Space: Above and Beyond" (1995) as Cooper Hawkes, the product of a genetic engineering process: an "in vitro." - When the Virtual Psychiatrist comes up in the police station, he asks Gibson about a turtle in the desert, a reference to the human/replicant test in Blade Runner. - Adam Gibson says: "Let's stop philosophizing," while holding a cat in a box in his hands. This is a reference to the famous Schroedinger's Cat paradox which says that quantum mechanical effects should permit a cat in a sealed box to be both dead and alive at once. - Nominated for three 2001 Razzie Awards for Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor (Schwarzenegger) and Worst On-Screen Couple (both Schwarzenegger's). |
||||||||||||||||||||||||

Wiley: I've been killed twice in two hours. Marshall: We've all been killed before. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Talia: Kinda takes the fun out of being alive, doesn't it?
Adam Gibson: I might be back.
Adam Gibson: When I told you to "go screw yourself" I didn't mean for you to take it literally.
Adam Gibson: This time stay dead.
Adam Gibson: My daughter's inside. I don't want her exposed to any graphic violence, she gets enough from the media.

CRITICAL COMMENTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
"A well-crafted entertainment containing enough ideas to qualify it as science fiction and not just as a futurist thriller." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
"A fast-action, well-paced, clever sci-fi thriller that should go far toward erasing the bad aftertaste caused by last year's End of Days." -- Paul Clinton, CNN
"For Arnold's career, at least, it's not quite the end of days." -- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"The best Schwarzenegger movie in years." -- Jay Carr, Boston Globe

||||||||||||||||||||||||
"This movie knows how to entertain." -- Bob Graham, San Francisco Chronicle
"Though the filmmakers deliver a 'man should not play God' message, the movie's unsettling brand of gallows humor makes it hard to take such pronouncements seriously." -- Sean Means, Film.Com
"Although it tries to brew up a potion of chromosomal magic, this baby feels as old-timey as Geritol." -- Rita Kempley, Washington Post
