Rocky is forced to retire after having permanent damage inflicted on him in the ring by Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Returning home, Balboa discovers that the fortune that he had acquired as heavyweight champ has been stolen and lost on the stockmarket by his accountant. His boxing days are over. Soon enough, he begins to coach and up and coming fighter named Tommy Gunn. Rocky cannot compete, however, with the high salaries and glittering prizes being offered to Gunn by other managers in town. Soon enough, Rocky enters the ring yet again for a battle to end all battles.

QUOTES | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
CRITICAL COMMENTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tommy: Hey, you don't know me! Nobody does! I want my respect. Rocky: Well come and get it! |
"You pays your money, and you gets what you expects in this Stallone screenplay, but seriously, folks, the thrill is gone." -- Leonard Maltin
[Tommy punches Paulie] Rocky: You knock him down, why'nt you try knockin' me down now. George: In the ring! In the ring! Tommy Gunn only fights in the ring! Rocky: My ring is outside. Tommy: Yeah? Let's do it. |
"Despite Stallone's bantamweight attempts to insert, like, character into the fifth Rocky, it's the same old fight with the same old round of regulars. It seems silly wasting money on actors when the same could be achieved with Muppets. Rocky has little to do except shuffle around and mutter "cute" Rocky things." -- Desson Howe, Washington Post
